From reading, I see I own the "dreadful" synthetic stock, LOL.
Well, after being in the field 3 times, which has amounted to a grand total of about 2 miles of walking, my front sling mount has become detached, grrrrrr
I know some have spoken in favor of the synthetic stock, while many others have favored the lamy........I'm young enough and in shape the extra weight isn't a concern yet.......I'd just like to fix this up RIGHT and be DONE with it...........so do I bite the bullet and buy the replacement lamy stock?? Is there a preferred stock other than the factory replacements avail?? Bell/Carlson, HS Precision, others??
Many thanks.

If your issue is loose stud, you fix it by Loctite or like I did-epoxy on threads and over the nut and you done. Synthetic is fine for hunting. You cant hurt it. But you're into target shooting sometime it needs some work put into it.

I agree with olegburn, you can fix synthetic pretty easily. but if you want a laminate you can get a factory from randy wakeman or i purchased mine from richards microfit (work is needed) or you can order from boyds i beleave too.

I am working on a Boyd's right now. Set me back the princely sum of 65 and was delivered after Christmas as requested. We were traveling or I could have had it in 4 days or so.
Just got back from the range. It is not bedded, but the weather was nice. I ended with a 5 shot 4 inch group. Actually quite pleased with the group as the action/stock needs to be bedded. I wanted to feel the recoil of the thing. IMO my mouth is not as sore as with the Tupperware. Loads were 300 gr 458 Hornaday/bcr sabot 10/60 4759/H4198. By the looks of the sabot I am near max.
Lots less sanding. Took me 15 minutes to open the barrel channel to accept the ML barrel. Stock came finished.

youp50,
That's a great price. Which stock did you get from boyds?

Which Boyd's stock did you get 65 to fit the Savage? Did it have a ramrod groove or was it plain?

Super price. Probably cannot duplicate it. I wanted an unfinished stock. They were about 69 bucks. As I was him'n and hawin there were less unfinished color options available. A couple of days before Christmas I went on line to haw a little more and there it was Merry Christmas 15 or 20 bucks off. So I bought two, one brown finished and one black and red unfinished, the only one available unfinished.
The unfinished ones were gone, not to be replaced, so they sent me a finished one. I ended with two stocks 150 to the door. No waiting, but no ramrod channel either. Not sure if I will carry a Mac's rod or open up a channel. Most of the wood is hollowed out where the rod would fit. If I choose the rod channel the front sling stud needs redoing, it has a nylock nut and sticks up too far for the rod...
I chose the JRT. I like the lines. I also like the way the cheek piece 'falls away' under recoil.
I am fairly certain it was Richard that posted how much less sanding involved with the Boyd's.
The red and black is growing on me anyway. Sure beats the duct tape and padding on my tupperware. Wilms posted that it was too ugly to steal. He must know a better class of thieves, I didn't think it was THAT ugly. Close though. ;D
I will try to remember how to get images to Photo bucket and post a pic later.

I have three ML IIs (me and two sons). All factory with Tupperware stocks. All will consistently shoot sub 2 inch at 100 yards with a variety of loads. I do have to be careful on not resting the front of the synthetic stock on anything, so my front rest goes just about under the barrel nut. This year I killed two coyotes and two deer between 100 and 175 yards. Seems to work OK. I am not unhappy with the synthetic.
But I would like to shoot that one hole group, and have bought two factory laminate stocks from the buy, sell trade section of this forum. (If you keep an eye open for them and have patience that might work for you.)
I have not swapped the stocks yet, as I want to run a small test. First I want to add a higher mag scope ( swap the 3 to 9 x to either a 12 or 16X) and see what that does to group size (if anything). Then add the laminate stock and re shoot. Then bed the laminate stock and re shoot. A couple of range sessions on different days with each rifle before making the next change. Since I have two guns to do this with, I will have an opinion if the laminate is worth the extra weight when I am done.
It may well turn out that I am already getting the best I can out of the factory barrel. If so, I will just have to keep the shots under 200 yards. I can still out shoot my buddies BP guns.
