I feel like I have a good solid setup with the 209 coversion ,getting Blackhorn to go and now I'm having primer nightmares.I'm using Winchester 209 shotgun primers and if I can get three in a row to light up I feel like I'm doing well.I have some T7's but have been warned about their performance with Blackhorn.I have never had a problem with them lighting off T7.Quiet frankly I never had any problems until BlackHorn came to town....
I reload all my ammo And I have never had a dud primer!

What are you using the 209 conversion on? I have a Knight MK85 with the 209 conversion kit and could not get BH209 with Winchester primers to work. I had a hangfire the first time but may have gotten some solvent in the breech plug after the first shot. It wouldn't fire after that.

I once had problems getting BH to ignite consistently in my Ruger. A little work on the Breechplug and CCI mags 209's and now I have no problems. Drilling out the flash hole from.028 to .035 was a big help also. What did you say you were shooting? Zen

The winchesters are just not firing.I'm pounding a good dimple into them, they are just not lighting. If they do light the BH does its job.
I'm shooting a 700 ML converted.

Sounds like a bad batch of primers or something in your firing mechanism [spring]? I know that in my Ruger [similar to your Remington] it's very important to keep things clean....I use Winchester 209's in my Savage with good results. Zen

Pan,the firing mechanism is all new and I keep it spotless.I thought spring also so I changed it out. I think I have all the best parts of the two conversion kits and the stock stuff.
The springs are different, the Canadian conversion kit had a short spring, shorter than stock which I installed with the kit. Then I bought the newest kit from Cabelas which had a spring similar in length to the stock unit and for a while I just used the breech plug from Cabelas and not their spring, worked fine but when this issue arose I thought like you and put the longer spring in to mate up with the Cabelas kit. No real diffference,I think I need some primers!

I would check to see how much your firing pin actually dents the primer. Some of these conversions that shoot caps and 209 primers just don't have a deep enough strike in a 209 primer for reliable ignition. At least with regular 209's anyway. Black powder 209's have a thinner primer cup on them and will fire with a lighter strike.

Well todays session wasn't quite as bad as the last session, only had one dud and one hangfire.I was shooting off the Powerbelts that I had left and some Hornady XTPs.I haven't waivered from 100 grs on any of my loads and after 7 or so shots I started to get some flyers to the left.I purposely did not bring any swaps because I wanted to see how long I would go before seeing some print change. One thing I found interesting was that I had only 80 grs left in the flask for my last shot and that ended up being the most accurate of the bunch.I think next time out I am going to throttle back a bit.

Today at the range....duds 2, hangups 1,but all in all an interesting day.I am still just experimenting and getting to know how all things are going to perform.I haven't settled into a particular load combo yet.
First thing was to foul things up and I got a dud,got her fouled with 2 primes which seems to at least knock any moisture out.My first two shots were 80 gr loads and printed about 3" apart, way low but on the same horizontal plane. On the next two I decided to go back to 100 grs and got back to my point of aim plane but left, made a scope adjustment to the right and up a bit.The next two were inside of each other abit to the right and still not quite high enough, scope adjustment up a bit and back to the left. Next two inside of each other again but high.Got cold and decided to call it a day.
The last four shots were impressive compared to where I have been so far.I don't know if my rifle likes this level of fouling but I had two robin hoods from 120 yds.The funny thing is that my last time out I couldn't bring the groups together .Today I had things come in real well.Wish it wasn't so cold so I could really dial it in.Still I'm having alot of fun...

Today things went much better.I got a chance to pick up some CCI primers, all my duds and hang ups went away.I also noticed that I was getting much more ignition making me think that 100 grs might be a bit too much.My bolt came back hard after the shot.It was like I gained 10 grs from the primers.
My rifle seemed to like the 250gr Hornady XTP Mags over the 300 gr XTP mags. The 250s went in dryer than the 300s and the sabots were different also.Leaves more room for experimenting!I think that I will drop back to 90grs and see how things work.
