I talked to them several yeas ago because I wanted a 45 and had been waiting for them to make one. They stated that they had no plans to produce a 45 and did not see one in the future

This is strictly 100% my opinion founded on mostly common sense, and anyone who knows better feel free to correct me. But does anyone reading this really think there is enough interest in a .45 caliber muzzleloder, smokeless capable or other wise for Savage to be reasonably confident they will sell enough of them to warrant their risk of investing the $$$ to produce and sell them?
I personally have seen 100s of people shooting MLs at my fav range, including dozens of Knights, but I have never once seen anyone shooting a .45 caliber Knight or Encore, and I admit Im sure I did not ask more than just a few, but I always make a point to ask most what cal ML is being shot.
I could be wrong on this, but Savage only has to look at how few .45 caliber (at least it seems that way to me) MLs Knight or T/C MLs have ever sold combined to think there is simply not that big a potential market for a .45 caliber 10ML-II.
I do wish Savage would offer a .45 caliber 10ML-II as a type of so called "custom shop special" that you would have to order from savage. I think they might be able to do that at a minimal investment risk of capitol.
I am only guessing, but Savage might also be hesitant to produce a 10ML-II in .45 cal as they might fear people would be far more prone shoot them sabot-less VS a .50 caliber 10ML-II their by increasing the risk of a catastrophic failure as no longer having a sabot as a type of safety valve.
Bottom line IMHO I think Savage does not feel there is enough of a potential market for a 10ML-II in .45 caliber to justify their risk of capitol to produce and market it, especially so in the present P-poor economy.

I have two sub caliber smokeless barrels but I also do not see any push by the industry to sell much besides the .50s. The expense versus the return seems minimal to me. If we like other calibers IMO it is pretty much up to our own devices.

Why sell you a .45 when you buy their .50 anyway to make a .45? I know a few are being built on other actions but the bulk of them seem to be rebarreled Savages. If there was an option to get to .45 that actually cut into their sales then they might look into it. Maybe they could just sell the ML action as a compromise.

Looking at how easy as a DIY project the .45 pacnor is on the savage action, how much of an expense would it really be for savage to simply make some .45 barrels and have on hand and market both?

Muzzleloader are a small fraction of Savages Business. Just how many .45 do you think they could sell...case closed.
