Both Thompson and CVA have Fluted Barrels on some of their models. What is the advantage of this other than reduced weight of the Barrel??

reduced weight, faster cool down time, but i think personally, it aids in looks more than anything else.

Fluting will allow two barrels of the same weight to have different rigidities. If a slightly larger diameter barrel is fluted to where it's weight is the same as a slightly lesser diameter barrel, the fluted barrel will have 3 things compared to the slightly smaller barrel: 1) will weigh the same, 2) will cool slightly faster due to more surface area, 3) will be more rigid than the smaller barrel, and 4) I agree - looks better.

Deffinately high in the cool department, or as my wife says "estheticly pleasing".
