Just picked up my brand new SS/Camo Savage ML-II. I am looking forward to shooting it soon. I topped it off with a Luppy VX-II 3X9 scope.
Any tips, I know, I'll start reading, for a newbie?
Thanks!

welcome to the pack, you have come to the right place for sage Savage ML advice. first off get a cup of coffee or whatever you like to sip on and go to the tips & hints section and educate yourself, there is a lot of info there to go over so it will take a while. Find a bullet you would like to try and find a sabot that fits your bullet and barrel well (not too tight and not too loose) this is half the battle/ it is all explained in the info. any questions you have afterwards these fine gents will steer you in the right direction......Bill

WELCOME CROW, Haven't been here too long myself but these guys treat ya real good. Do the reading take plenty of notes and listen to the pros.Oh, don't think you ought to dry fire this rifle much. I was taught in the service to marry your weapon by holding it, bring it up to your shoulder and dry fire, dry fir dry fire.I have a pre 64 win 243 and i have dry fired it a thousand times but I think the consinsus here is not to dry fire the savage. Just my two

Good to have you. I actually own two... and I hunt the SS camo combo. Love the gun. Mine likes 43 grains of 5744 with a xtp .452 hornady and MPP sabot. I use both the 250 and 300 XTPs. At a minimum, this is a great starting setup. Welcome aboard.

A easy way to is to use a pencil eraser and gut the primer insert the eraser. That way you have some thing for the firing pin to hit. And it will last a long time till you loose it and have to make another. Cheapest way that I have found and it works with any shell just trim the eraser to fit. I like the hard erasers to make these I think they hold up better. But I do dry fire them too.

As not all that long ago I was in your shoes, the best advice I can offer is above all else be patient in all you do and do it with deliberate slowness. Second best advice I can give you is go to the tips and hints section as most of the info you need to get the most out of your 10ML-II is there.
But before you do any shooting, I will offer you the same advice that was given to me by one of this sights most knowledgeable members. Clean your new 10ML-II's barrel until you are certain it is 100% clean and than clean it some more.
If you have any questions or are uncertain of anything just ask and you will get the info you need.

Welcome to the board. My advice is to consume all the information that is in the book that comes with the rifle. Stick with book recommended loads until you are confident in your own ability to seat loads and can shoot it safely. The tips and hints sometimes gets a little complex for the beginner. In there are such things as duplexing, using a wide variety of powders and bullets that is not recommended by savage. In mounting the scope insure that the front edge of the scope mount doesn't rest on the the recoil lug top. Mark you ramrod with reference points so that you can quickly determine if the rifle is loaded and the bullet is fully seated. The rifle itself is strong and safe so for self pertection make sure you are never even a little careless. Good luck and enjoy this fine muzzle loader.
