I am wanting to convert my 700ml 50 cal. to 45cal using a higher quality custom barrel and convert my nipple bolt to either 209 or primed pistol case ignition. I could use some advice from knowledgeable people here. I hope I can get some guidance or suggestions regarding the use of black powder vs. smokeless and sabot vs. sabotless projectiles. I have been using blackpowder/or its equivalent since 1970, but in the last few years, I have been hung up on using percussion caps. I need to get a new life and you can help me.
Thanks, Walt Collins Nashville, TN

Check out our conversion under "700ML breech plug conversion " in this same Modern muzzleloading section farther down the page.

Don,t rush your decision to convert. I went through this the past month, talking to several folks on the board. I to thought that smokeless is the only way to go, not so. It seams that those that have converted to a .45 cal are getting excellent results out to 200 yards. If you check out all the posts concerning conversion of the Rem 700 ML you will find it to be one of the best platforms to start with. Most of the folks that have posts are either gun smiths or machinist or have an in with either of the two. All of them will help you to a point!!!! A lot of their discussions I do not comprehend. I am not either of the two nor do I have an in with anyone. I sent my 700 to some one to do it for me, with high recommendations. My 700 is a .50 cal and I figured I would start with that cal, if it performs well. I will have my second 700 converted to a .45. There are several choices you have for a barrel, but here is where we come to the point. It will be expensive where ever you have the work done. If $$$$$$$ is no problem, I would recommend a well experienced gun smith or a machinist. Before you make your decision I would read all the posts on this board and MODERN MUZZLELOADER as well as any other forums you can find concerning the Rem 700 conversion. Hope this helps, and good luck

It will be hard to improve the accuracy of a 700ML. From the factory they are as accurate as any muzzleloader I've seen or used.
