I noticed on another site that the Barnes Bullet Co. was sold to the Freedom Co. that is involved with Remington Arms. Anyone know if this is correct and the future plans with the line? That would interest a number of our Savage shooters.

I've been too busy to slink around in my ninja suit gathering intel. It does throw a big what happens next into the industry. Remington has always offered Barnes bullets but with Remington now in control will they cut-off say Federal, Cor-Bon, Black Hills or Wetherby from offering Barnes bullets loaded in their ammo? Randy and Connie Brooks took Barnes Bullets to new heights after buying out Fred in 1974. Of course it was just skimping along until Randy came up with the X bullet in 1989. Maybe now with everyone jumping on the "lead-free" bandwagon it was time to cash in the chips. With Hornady, Speer (with ATK/Federal) and Nosler (with the backing of Winchester) getting into the solids they would be loosing market share. Then there was the big expansion last year which was a big cash outlay and not the fastest return with the economy going south. The thing to watch is if there is a "consolidation of manufacturing assets" (I think that is the term they used when they canned 200 people at H&R) and Barnes moves from Utah to Arkansas.
As far as Cerbeus/Freedom Group buying a powder company, Homey don't think so! at least a North American company. The last three smokeless powder plants left in North America, two are owned by General Dynamics and the other by ATK. Cerbeus/Freedom Group doesn't have the kahonas to take them on.
