Im shooting a 350 grain white powerstar in front of 75 grains of 2015. Today was doe day and the last day of deer season in virginia. It was 14 degrees with wind chills about 10 below. Anyways, I shot a doe at 186 yards that was bedded down and slightly quartering to me. It was bang flop with bullet entering her front chest and traveling to rest at her pelvic bone. She didnt even kick just dropped her head. Anyways it took 4 primers to get it to go off. On the last shot I held a hot hand on the barrel above the powder charge for a minute and thats when it finally went off. This is a rare cold day in virginia but we do get them every now and then during hunting season. Can I use a few grains of 5744 as a booster?

I would definitely say yes but remember, you will have to subtract at least an equal amount of your main charge from the load. I would probably add say.........Five grains of 5744 or N-110 and then subtract maybe seven or eight grains of the 2015. There is nothing here carved in stone. You will have to play with it while using a chronograph and keep a check on the results. I do a lot of duplexing and you just have to work up carefully. Richard

Richard thanks for the reply. I will work with that load and some 5744 when I can get back to the range. The road is closed now due to snow and ice on the road and hard to tell when it will get reopened. Im still undecided on what custom muzzleloader Im going to go with but Im still going to keep the 10ml for those short hunts and might try to do some groundhog hunting with it ;D
