I'm speaking for those who HAVE done this, but my understanding is that the thicker sabots do not do well with smokeless pressures. This is the reason a lot of guys are converting to .45s.

Harvester told me they were not designed for smokeless pressure. They sent me a sample pack that I plan to try with a thicker hard card under them, but it's down on the list right now.

Been down that route last year, tried that bullet with that 40x50 sabot; tried wads, cards, sub base, 28 ga. shot cup, delrin washers, alum. washers, they will not shoot with smokless speed, sabots get drilled. They work well with 120 gr. of Blackhorn. If you could find something that worked with smokless it would be like finding the holy grail, I couldn't.

It was a very tight fit in my 50 cal barrel and averaged 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" groups. I would suspect that the Harvesters would be similar, but never actually tried them as they didn't come out until about the time I switched to the .40 barrel. Got about the same results with 195 Barnes and 200 XTPs. Keep your pressures moderate and they will probably work. Try to use heavier charges like you use with your .45cal bullets and you will likely drill the sabots. Also you must only use the flat based bullet. Some of the Barnes have a tapered rear and they will really drill sabots bad.

I wanted a light recoil load, and used 36 gr VV-110 and .40/50 Shockwave w/supplied sabots. Consistent 3/4 in group a 100 yds out of a stock SS/Syn. Real mild recoil and still around 2000 fps. I killed a doe at 50 yds with this load. Double lung and only clipped a rib. The bullet did its job, but I didn't hit shoulder/leg bone, or try to drive it too fast.
