When I got to the range this morning before day light bill had beat me a few minutes had the heater going wide open it was 27 degrees.I hurried and got set up so I could check my 6 BRX because we are planning on going to a 600 yd match saturday.Richard got there a little later.Got the 6mm ready then shot 3 different hunting rifles checking out some new loads.
Then it was time to shoot the savage 45 cal.Was wanting to try the 195 barnes with a few differant powders.H322-69,H4198-63 grs.and a duplex 5744/12/2015/48.
I had cleaned the rifle before and put in a lehigh vent to try in a factory plug.Well didn't get all that good groups the best one being 1.07 in for 4 shots.
I had shot the H322 and the H4198 and got ready to shoot the duplex but when loading I didn't put the 5744 in instead I put in 2 vials of 48 grs 2015.Thats 96 grs total.I noticed my wittness mark was a tad high but though it was because the charge was taking up more space.
I shot it and it didn't kick bad at all but sure made a big boom.Richard was puzzled and I told him it was a duplex load. But when I went to reload I saw what I had done I had 2 empty vials marked 48 grs.I think about 30% of the load just went out the barrel.
I loaded and shot 3 more loads of the duplex and counting the heavy load and the 3 was the best load I got this morning measureing 1.07 in.
I couldn't detect any thing wrong with the barrel and the recoil was less than with the other 2 powders so decided to try it again and see how much flame I got out of the barrel.Richard said it was pretty good so he will have to describe it.
Not telling anyone to try this load only saying I screwed up.The reason I tried it again is that I knew it was a slow powder and knew my barrel couldn't burn that much powder. The second shot I got 3019 fps on the chrony.
I came home and clean the rifle and checked the breech plug for fouling and I didn't shoot but 16 shots but there probably was less fouling with the vent.Going to try it again next time anyhow.
Be Carefull
