Thinking of selling my T/C prohunter in 209 X 50 and my Remington 700ML to purchase a Savage smokless......problem is I have no clue of whats up with these guns. Buddy of mine is telling me I won`t be disappointed if I do this. Can you good people point me in the right direction here?

Bowhunterpse Take the time to read the Hints and Tips section. That will answer a lot of your questions. What you have to look forward to is NO MESSY cleaning, good accuracy, bullet speed beyond anything a black powder smoke pole can offer and, if you shoot at a critter? You can see if it is hit without having to wait for the smoke to clear Yes, there is a learning curve but if you follow the hints and tips plus ask questions, that curve will be relatively short. Now is the time to get involved in smokeless...........Hunting season is about done so you have 10 months to get your feet wet. There is a wealth of help on this board. So, welcome aboard! Richard

I'm new to smokeless too, bought a stainless laminate thumbhole and love the gun. No more cleaning between shots and after each session with less recoil. I don't plan to sell my Knight's but probably won't use them to much from now on. I've taken two deer with it so far.

I only had the Savage a couple of years but found it an exceptionally fun rifle to own and shoot. I have been reading about it daily for well over a year now. I have seen many new owners make the mistake of getting to deep to quick. I think the best advice a new owner can follow is book loads and book powders until they are thoroughly familiar with the rifle. Once they find a good hunting load with book recomended powder, bullets etc., there will be all kind of tricks and modifications that are fun to try. The tips and hints are great to read and get educated but I would suggest that newbies take the slow sure route one step at a time.
