Well deer season opens up this coming Sunday so I headed to the club today with the savage and all the necessary gear. We have to use BP subs in Michigan so I had vials of BH209 pre-measured in 90, 100, 110 and 120 volume. Put some ice and water in my barrel cooler grabbed the cleaning supplies and was ready to go.
Gun ML II SS non accutrigger with a bedded laminate stock
Recessed bushing breech plug
3 x 9 Bushnell 3200 in Warne QD Mounts
Range 75 yards ( I was assured today by the landowner where I hunt that this will be a long shot this year the corn is still in the fields.)
Started with 90 BH 209 300gr rem hp in orange MMP sabot.
CCIm primers
I used the cool rod between each shot then swabbed with both sides of 3 patches
Used three shots to get the scope close then the next three went into a 2 1/4" group.
Upped the powder to 100 and the next three went to a 1 1/2" better but not what I want.
Next up was 110 volume and the next three went into a 3/4" group. Now we are talking something that we can work with.
Fine tuned the scope from this group and shot another three shots that went 5/8" one inch above the bull ;D ;D Came home cleaned the gun drilled the carbon out of the plug and its ready to head to the farm.
So Sat when I get to the farm I will load and fire off one shot and do the patching routine and have it ready for Sun morning. This gun will get nothing but the swabbing between shots until I am done hunting for the year now.
