I have been using a SML Ruger No. 1 for the last several years. Usually one sight in shot before season and done, never varies at 1.5 inches high at 100 yards. This is a .45. Use the light blue sabot and the Fury .401, 230 grains. Always right at 2900 fps. This year added a veggie wad before the sabot. Way high and right and then way low and left. Shot the third without the wad, right back to where it always shoots. Just to make sure I shot it once more today without the wad with my normal components, right back to 1.5 inches high. Sometimes "minor" changes make for large differences.

Jim, Strange . I’ve only noticed slight opening of groups when I needlessly used a wad where not needed. Parker BEs (Hunter?) , Furys and Accumaxes all seem to obturate easily w/o needing the bandaid of a wad. Furys, in-particular, since they are bonded by annealing, are very soft and obturate very easily.
You have such nice rifles! Also, for those who think sabots aren’t viable, consider 2,900’/sec, 230g and saboted!

I am not sure why I even tinkered with what was working well but I do at times yet experiment, not as much as in the past.

I had similar results when attempting to use veggies with boat tail bullets. They pretty much ruined accuracy. Was actually pleased, since it made one less thing to stuff down the barrel.
