One of the pleasurers I enjoy about shooting a SML is the challenge of obtaining accuracy. Taking a projectile and having it consistently hit at a specific POI is rewarding. Now it depends on how I construct that load and assemble it into the bore. Another major element is also the shooter and his level of shooting skills. There are so many factors in play and it only takes one poor factor (variable) to throw everything out of sync. But the beauty is that the shooter basically controls the outcome if the SML and scope are in good working order.
My main focus is bore fit of a bullet/sabot. I’ve found that this is important for 2-reasons. One, a tighter fit has a better sabot/bullet hold so that a good rotational spin is achieved. Secondly the bullet is better held in a concentric position as it travels down the bore. Here I utilize knurling to improve the 2 conditions mentioned. Then there’s finding the sweet spot. After that it’s examining the target for hints of any other problems or just powder load adjustment. What I consider important is keeping notes/records of range outings. This way I have reference points to explore if a problem arises or if an improvement is seen.
Soon it will be time for me to stop watching some TV and start watching holes appearing on targets. That’s my favorite program to watch, chuckle.
