Over a life time we develop special friendships both 2 and 4 legged. These friends enrich our lives with time spent together doing what we enjoy. From this many fond memories develop that we hold dear to our hearts. Then when a loss occurs, we feel empty and grieve that loss because we know we lost something special that leaves a momentary gap in our lives. After we heal from a loss we come to realize that the loss is not a total loss. The fond memories live on and surface at times when we do something we shared with them. I don’t find these memories painful but pleasing and, in a way, reassuring as life goes on. Not all friends are close at hand as some friendships are made in our travels such as on the net. Even those losses are felt. To name a few such as Ozark and Edge who were influential. Gone but not forgotten. I thank God for allowing these friendships into my life that has enriched it.

TGinPA and Rick Bibby as well. Oh, how I still miss RBinAR!
It is totally better to sleep in Jesus than the alternative. Most of my friends (rural neighbors) are now gone.

I lost 3 of my best best friends in the last 6.5 months. My wife said bad thing happen in three's. First was my oldest brother at age 68, second was a hunting buddy in Ohio at age 64, third was my neighbor and friend at age 89. All are missed dearly. There are still times when I grab my phone to call or text one of them before reality sets in and I set my phone back down. I hope to see them again one day.

Pets and people come and go in our lives and each leaves a mark. Some are subtle and some are prominent. As we age we become accustomed to loss but it never gets any easier. A deep faith in God makes things more tolerable. The fellowship and sharing of the members is truly inspiring. I too feel enriched by the friendships developed. Thanks Ed.

Ed You emphasize how fond memories become a source of comfort and reassurance after loss, keeping the essence of the friendship alive.
