With the advent of hunting season my friend who has a range membership is pretty occupied so another range session may not happen this year to test my new approach to using duplex sabots. I have torn the concept of duplex sabots apart looking at every scenario of what is transpiring with the load. From this I formulated a new approach that I feel has potential. First, I still need to establish a decent group with 200FTX and then use same said load for the duplex sabot for comparison. I’m not going to bore the reader with long-winded details and just leave a picture to end this thread.

I guess I'm coming late to the game but .... what is you are trying to do? Do you want to shoot 40 cal. bullets from a 50 cal. rifle or do you have a boat load of unused sabots of different sizes? Jus trying to understand. Thanks for the clarification, BOB

Jus trying to understand. Thanks for the clarification, BOB Am trying to get a 40cal bullet to shoot out of a 50 and in this case with a duplex sabot combination. With this setup I hope to see if sabot separation sequence makes a difference.

Wondering if ya might need something to keep the sabots from spinning on each other. Should they spin on each other, it will keep the bullet from spinning as it should, or not at all.

The reason I am asking is because for years I have been using .40 dia. 200 Gr. SST bullets in my Savage 50 caliber rifle. The sabot I use is the blue MMP hph in 40/50 size. Have you tried this option?

Harvester has the sabot for just what you are doing.I shoot that bullet with the harvester sabot and it does the job rather good in my cva optima v2 50 cal.I shoot mainly under 50 yards in the woods and the accuracy is on par.

I agree about possible sabot slippage. That is why I incorporated a two-sided sandpaper disk inserted between sabots to hopefully eliminate that possibility. I can’t glue the sabots but feel the sandpaper disk should do the trick.

BobinIN I’ve tried the 50-40 sabot but did not get acceptable results. The fit IMO is too tight and not allowing proper seating of the bullet into the sabot. As a backup plan I’ve increased the ID of that sabot for a better bullet fit and seating. But I prefer not to go this route because it’s more complicated to reform the sabot.

Thanks for your reply and mention of the Harvester sabot. A certain level of accuracy is required for shooting out to 200yds and that is what I want. If I can get the 200SST to shoot well then it’s time to also try the 195 Expander.

I will follow this with interest but suspect there will be accuracy issues.

Thanks. Like you I also knurl my bullets usually with a .002” increase in bullet diameter. It’s amazing what .001” surface knurl does for consistent accuracy. Wish you good hunting this season.

Yes, there is the possibility of accuracy issues. From day one with the 10ML-II there were accuracy issues and over time each variable that contributed to accuracy issues was resolved. I don’t see this duplex sabot load being any different but more complicated with extra components. More components the more things that could go wrong. But I still remain optimistic with this project.
