I was wondering if you should crush pellets after they are in your barrel or not. I am using 3 t7 pellets in my Remington 700 ml and am getting over 2,000 fps on the crony with 300 grain saboted bullet. When I crush the pellets down with the bullet, I get a huge amount of recoil and 2260 fps? Rifle handles it well but not my shoulder. I wonder what kind of pressure that would be generating?

NO. Do not crush the pellets. It creates over pressure problems as you witnessed by the amount of recoil.. Seat your sabot/bullet or bullet snuggly on the pellets. Do not crush them.

They are designed to not be crushed. You increase the surface area and burn rate by crushing them. There is probably a safety factor built in in case someone actually does this by accident. Also, from a consistency factor you cannot guarantee that you crush them the same every time so there is no good reason to do this.

I only did this because a friend said that there would be air space around them. I didn't do it again because the lump between my eyes still hurts LOL. It must have created one heck of a lot of pressure as well because the velocity went way high. 2260 fps.
