Well Monday was an interest outing for ducks. It wasn’t a stellar day with only one duck taken but this was a special duck. This was the young’s dog’s first retrieve and introduction to his future duties. I really enjoyed this and it brought back memories of my previous experience with my past retriever and first go. When my friend sent his dog out, I knew what was going to happen. The dog only swam a short distance and stopped looking back as he was waiting for his master to toss something out. Okay my partner had to use the boat to retrieve the downed duck.
When he returned, he called the dog over to him and tossed the duck out for the dog to retrieve. The dog went after it but hesitated for a moment when he reached it as it was unfamiliar to him. A re-enforced command got the dog to pick it up and bring it back. Okay my partner did this a few times to get the dog familiar with what he needed to do. Now I cringed a little when he did this numerous times because I was to take this duck home. Fortunately, the dog didn’t have a hard mouth trying to tenderize the bird before I took possession, chuckle.
All in all, it was a good day.

Glad you enjoyed the read. There was a part of the hunt I left out to keep my original post a reasonable length. I call it the “BOING” incident. My partner has an auto rem-1100. While loading the tube magazine he didn’t push the shell deep enough for the tube to catch it. It came back and jammed the mechanism. The only way I know to safely unjam it was to remove the magazine spring that held the shell in its position. This meant carefully removing the spring retaining clip. I started to pry the clip upwards and before I could properly cover for the spring release it went BOING launching the spring and retaining clip, NUTS. Okay we got the receiver unjammed and had to reinstall the spring without the retaining clip.
As the morning passed, I periodically took time for searching for the retaining clip with no luck of finding it. Okay I was resolved that I would buy another clip for my friend. When I was watching my friend retrieve the downed duck, I stood up to stretch and heard a soft plop hit the floor. When I looked down to see what caused that sound, Lo and Behold there was the retaining clip. Somehow when the clip was launched it was flipped into my coat opening. After navigating over some abdominal expansion, it found its way out. Well, that helped make my day, chuckle.
Now you know the whole story of events from the duck hunting outing. This one will make the annals for my hunting memories, chuckle.

LOL, and I know exactly what you are talking about with that internal friction fit magazine cap. I've launched one or two of them myself from my 870s which are similarly constructed. They are easier to find in controlled environments.

They are easier to find in controlled environments. Interesting you mention 870 because IMO it's one of the best pump shotgun ever built. Mine is 39yrs old and has never given me any problems after thousands of shots. I have 2-barrels for it. One for turkey hunting and one for migratory birds. For normal upland game my preference is an O/U shotgun.
