I have an Encore barrel that I've had at least 20 years. Question for you, will the breech plugs go bad, or should I replace it? I have shot mainly pyrodex in it. However, 2 years ago I switched to black MZ. Was having great accuracy and now... not so much. Considering switching back to pyrodex. I tried BH209, but it was all over the place. Only went up to 100 grains by volume. Any suggestions? The sabots I tried have been the MMP blues for 40 cal. That was with the black mz. Thanks in advance.

Couple things here, what primer are you using, have you drilled out the flame channel with to clean out the carbon? BH 209 needs a very clean channel and a hot primer like a federal 209a or CCIm, the ones made specific for ML do not work well at all. It also needs a very tight fitting sabot/bullet combination from what I have found for accuracy and as well for cold weather ignition, pyrodex would have to be the last thing left to shoot before Id ever use it again. Have you tried any other sabot/bullet combinations with it?

Encore accuracy can go south when the flash hole enlarges, and it will. I'd install a new breech plug prior to anything else. I used to replace 3 or more a year.
Another option, have someone make the plug to accept vent liners.

I 100% agree with encore50a an the breech plug, when I was shooting a lot of rounds thru my omega years ago which should be the same BP, I would go thru a couple a year and as he stated as soon as the flash hole enlarges accuracy goes away
