A little background first..before Indiana allowed the use of centerfires they allowed the use of straight wall cartridges and I bought a Savage model 16 in 300 WSM for a donor gun...I do not want to whack deer with this round and my options are to put this 300 WSM barrel back on and sell it and take a even bigger beating or convert.. I really want to go with the 6.5 Creedmoor...does anyone know my options here? Thanks in advance...

You could check out northlandshooterssupply.com/You have a choice of barrels made by Criterion or Shilen. The Shilens are a bit more expensive. Both are offered in 6.5 Creed. Whether they have either in stock right now would be the question. Although the company has changed hands, I hear the new guy is very good to work with.

Are you wanting to do the work or have someone do it for you? If I wanted to do it myself I'd pick up a threaded, short chambered, and crowned barrel (last one I picked up was a Shaw, but there are bunches of manufacturers). Then rent a reamer and go/no-go gauge and hand chamber after putting barrel on receiver. If that isn't for you, I would get my parts and have a local smith put it together. However, talk to your smith first as to how he wants to work. The most difficult part is finding a smith that you can talk to and does good work.

there is no need to get a short chambered savage barrel, that's what the savage nut is for. I assume that you have a large shank barrel so you would need to get the replacement barrel with a large shank thread also. A set of go, no-go gauges and a savage nut wrench is all you need. Break the barrel nut, unscrew the barrel, move the barrel nut to the new barrel, screw it back on most the way, put the go gauge on and screw the barrel on until it's snug against the go gauge, tighten the barrel nut check with the no go gauge, and that's all there is to it. No reaming or anything else. good luck

I forgot, but as you are going from a mag to a standard bolt face you need to change out the bolt face too.
