I see that many members are using wads with their sabot-less rifles. We have veggie, wool, and poly wads. Then we have various thickness, lubed, and unlubed and other options and variables. I use a 60 thousand veggie wad because that's what I have on hand for reloading a 1873 Trapdoor Springfield 45-70. I would be very interested in the thoughts, opinions, advantages, disadvantages, and usage of wads that other members have. Thanks in advance, Bill

when I first shot my 40 cal sabotless with sst bullets all bullets were tumbling, hitting the target sideways. I got some wool wads and tried them with everything else the same and had round bullet holes and a 1.25 5 shot group at 100 yds. So I have used the wads since then when shooting sabotless

Seems like it just depends on a person's rifle. I full form but some bullets are helped by that same .060 veggie wad, namely the thicker jacketed bullets. On the other hand, boat tail copper bullets are not at all accurate when using veggie wads; I haven't tried wool wads with them.
One just needs to shoot a few groups to see what their rifle likes.
