I've got a new rifle with the factory brake installed and plan to use h4198 and smooth sized bullets. What are some tried and true loads for this rifle and these components? Trying to find the best bullet and powder charge. Probably would prefer to stay away from the ballistic extreme bullets as I didn't like the way they exploded on deer. Suggestions are appreciated.

300gr fury star tipped bonded bullets and 56gr H4198 with a wool wad shot real good for me. I think around 2400fps. If you are not trying for extreme distances, I have been hunting with 275xpb Barnes with a .060 veggie wad and 40gr vv n110 @2275fps. The Barnes may fit without sizing. They do a number on deer.

What kind of groups are you getting with that combination? You have direct ignition and a muzzle brake? Seems like the Fury's are about the best bang for the buck in a custom muzzleloader bullet.

N Yes DI, no brake, with the Fury and H4198 right at 1/2" at 100yds. With the other powder/bullet combo .3" at 100yds. Recoil is very manageable with either.

Are you annealing the Barnes bullets?

My Scout with DI set up liked 60 gr of H 4198, 275 gr bullets Luke's 275 X bullet or Fury star tip 2. 2550 fps no wad was needed, 100 yards under 1 inch, 200 yds 1.5 inches, 6 inch metal plate at 350 yards.
