Hello I recently read an article about using Pyrodex Pistol powder (FFFF) in modern inline rifles at reduced loads. If I can recall the stats it stated that 70gr of FFFF powder would achieve the same velocity, acceptable pressure and kinetic energy provided by FFF powder with less cleaning required. Has anyone ever used FFFF in place of FFF?

Pyrodex P is an equivalent to FFF, not FFFF as you somewhere read. i would never and dont recoment anyone using FFFF in any rifle. but on the other hand, when im not using real black i use Pyrodex P and it goes in all my guns, as does FFF black. when comparing loads with FF or Pyrodex RS i reduce the load by about 10% or so and things are fine, although I never shoot anywhere near the guns "max"

You are correct and the FFFF was a typo and I was refering to FFFg or pyrodex P. Were I was going with the question was I had read that P powder at a reduced load of 15 to 20% will give an increase in velocity as well as burning cleaner decreasing the time between cleaning.

since the granuals are smaller, the fouling is the same way. the make up of pyrodex is the same reguardless of the granual size(RS, Select, or P) so they dont foul any differently, but does allow for easier loading on a dirty bore. I think you'll find similar velocities with FF size powder when the load is reduced about 10% for Pyrodex P.
I personally like Pyrodex P better for a few reasons, one is it ignites easier(i dont use 209), fouling isn't bad, I can decrease my loads a hair - which costs less when yer cheap like me, and lastly it seems to measure more accurately for more consistant velocities. just my 2 cents tho ;D
