has anyone used these slugs. Rottweiler laser plus hammerhead slugs. I was crusing around looking for another slug to try in my 220 and came upon them on Slugsrus. I never shot them but I guess they are the same as the old Hastings laser slugs. Looks interesting with the sabot that stays with the slug, similar to the lightfield, but on these the entire slug stays encased instead of just a tailpiece. Pretty reasonably priced compared to a lot of what else is out there.
I have used the old Hastings Laser Accurate slugs in my Remington 1100 with a rifled barrel but only on paper off the bench . With a Leupold 2-7 shotgun scope the slugs produced one group of 1.65" and another of 2.30" at 100 yards . The hole in the paper was impressive but there are certainly slugs that would be more effective at any range past 100 yards . I never saw any in 20ga. but with the accuracy potential of the Savage 220 why not use a slug with a better B.C. ? I have fired the Winchester Partitions in my Savage 220 with fair results ...2.45" at 100 yards . The new Federal Trophy Copper 3" slugs were the tightest at 1" at 100 yards but only were about 1650fps at the muzzle . The Remington Accutips shot about 1 1/2" at 100 yards and averaged 1830fps at the muzzle . I recall back in 1974 being happy if my old smooth bore 1100 with a 1-4 Leupold would put 5 Breneke slugs in 12" at 100 yards shot off the hood of a car with a rolled up soft case for a front rest and no rear rest . Got a few boxes of the Rottweil's today in the mail. Not a fancy package but the roll crimps look really good and are consistent from shell to shell. Hopefully they shoot like they look.
Shot 10 slugs today at 50 and 100 yards. Not horrible. The 50 yard group was about 1.25 and the 100 yard 3 shot opened up to just over 1.5 inches. Gonna give it another go when the rain stops and see where it settles in at.1.5 high at 50 was right on at 100" yards.
Can't complain about a 1.5" slug group at 100 yards ! And at 50 yards the deer isn't going to last long enough to complain all that much . Maybe your barrel needs to have a couple of shots to foul the bore . Chris
After a lot of shooting slugs it seems like my 220 likes the 3 inch Accutips the best. Shooting under an inch C to C at 100 yards. But reading the other post has me a little worried. So hopefully they fixed there issues with the FTF. I am getting good primer indentation on mine and have not had any issues so far.
