Greetings, Does anyone have any experience with The 45 Raptor cartridge in a bolt gun (either 700 or Savage?)
I am considering a build for a Southern Michigan deer rifle (1.80" max case length)
Thank you!

A buddy that bought the UF Game Breaker, found .450 Bushmaster ammo online for $14 a box and bought a case. I didn't find out until the sale was over. I also own the .450 Bushmaster Game Breaker from UF and it'll shoot 1" 300yd groups if I'm on my game. UF Inc. is selling a lot of .450 Bushmaster rifles in MI and in other states. Although expensive, they are exceptionally accurate.

The bushmaster falls off big time from 200 to 300. At 300 it's under 900 ft lbs of energy. Velocity is 1200 ish. It's a good round but I think it's a little over rated

It's a good round but I think it's a little over rated Its a great round for southern MI, where CF's must meet specific lengths and be straight walled. Two different ballistics programs indicate slightly higher numbers than indicated above. The factory 250gr. FTX retains approximately 1590fps at 200 and 1350fps at 300yds. Maintaining approximately 1,000fpe at 300yds. Depending on which program is used....... There are a lot of southern MI whitetail hunters, either building or purchasing the .450 Bushmaster. The accuracy these rifles are achieving is outstanding. Still, the southern MI hunters average hunting shot remains under 100yds. There are some reloaders that have reported a verified 2400fps with the 250gr FTX bullet. They are very "tight" with the loading information.....

I don't have a 45 Raptor in a bolt gun, but I have a 460S&W barrel for the encore. I think they are really close if not the same ballisticly. It is a good round for deer hunting, plenty of power and a good selection of bullet weights and styles.
I also have a 450 Bushmaster in a bolt action savage.
I like the Bushmaster a little better. I hope this helps , some.

Not saying it's a bad cartridge but I feel it should be limited to a 200 yard shot while hunting. Excellent Michigan cartridge! But I feel numbers don't support a less than desirable shot at 300.

Imo if you could put one together cheap go for it. 45 SML with BH209 going to outperform Any of them pistol cartridges and you're going to get a better selection and the higher BC bullet

Thank you Gentlemen...!! I appreciate any and all input..
I agree that I would not really be gaining much over my Encore smoker with BH209/Barnes 290..Just an little convenience.

I do not think Ken Johnston is even making rifles in the 45 Raptor anymore and it never gained ground in the AR "thumpers" which it was designed for. So if ammo and cases dry up you may have a crimp in the plan. The Bushmaster is here to stay but I have to agree it is a bit weak for long range work. If you go subsonic before the target your accuracy goes south.
