I've talked to the usual suspects and learned some stuff but who else has phenomenal performance from mono bullets? How well can you get them to shoot?

Steve,
I've seen you shoot them. You fall into the usual suspect category.
LPH,
For the sake of defining terms we will say sub-MOA on demand. Like every time.

Zen, MIA but I have his email. Carlos, Steve, Rob, immediately jump to mind. Not sure if Earnhardt uses them or not. Sure there are others, TGinPA maybe? The 310 CMC has met your criteria so far, but 5 groups isn't much to draw on.

I guess specifically I'm asking if anyone owns a .45 that is killer with monos.

If you have contact info for Zen I'd appreciate it.

I guess you could shoot them sub moa, but they are hard to size. Just ask Steve he will tell you.

Keith, what exact bullet are you thinking about for mono bullets. Zen has had great success with both Hornady SST/FTX bullets and Barnes TMZ bullets both 250-300 in both bullets. He shoots smooth sized and uses clays, unique, blue dot, and 4759 for boosters and H4198 as a main charge. 7/63 win primers and veggie wads are his preferred method of choice.
I know he's going to work on mixing 7/63 to see if he can still get the same results, he should be testing that soon from our last conversation.

I would suspect that if you smooth size an all copper bullet that you would need to kick it pretty hard to get it to obturate completely! Folks seem to complain about even the thicker lead/copper jacketed bullets when they are only smooth sized. I think that smokeeter had the right concept when he added the concave section to his Nosler bullets.

last fall when I was working up a load for my rem/brux action I had same issue with Barnes 290 TEZ tumbling. I was boosting them with IMR 4759. Once I switched the booster to Clays the tumbling stopped and the groups came right in where they needed to be. Also some food for thought, I had to mess with the sizing adjustment with the monos more. There is no spring back with these bullets that I've noticed, but the bullets are harder than cup/core bullets. It seemed to me there is a fine line from too loose to to snug so to get the proper "fit" it took me a little more adjusting to finally figure out where it needed to be. FWIW

I agree, the line between to loose and too tight is very slim. Full-Form I can get them to shoot great with singles and 12# loading pressure. I'm going to try them SF this weekend.

Only shot one group with Barnes bullets so my experience is far from guaranteed. It was the Barnes 275gr .451 smooth sized out of a REM-PAC. Load was straight 60gr H4198 with a .030 veg wad and the three were under an inch. It seems backwards to logic, for me at least, but if fit is right they seem a bit more forgiving than the thick jacketed bullets like sst or ftx bullets with single powder loads.

I shot the Barnes 290 TEZ flat base today smooth sized with a 5/60 red dot/I4198 combo. Savage CF conversion/Rem CF plug with a 0.040 bushing and Fed 215 primers. 5 shots went 0.68" center to center at 100 yards, BUT the ES was not good at 88 FPS, ~2650 average. Gonna bump up the red dot to 7 grains and see if it tightens up.
This group was with 0.060 veggie wads and when I switched to dry wool wads the group opened up to almost 2". Guess that's why we test.

I think it's been about 4 years since I shot 290TEZ's, but they shot best with wool wads in my gun. I was using the N110/H322 duplex. But like you said, that's why we test. I forgot wads altogether today with the 270emax and shot a pretty good group.

Great group! The monos will definitely shoot and tough to argue with their terminal performance as well.

When Keith first mention the MONO'S, I thought he was referring to the HORNADY MONOFLEX, but after the came by the store the other day and drop some off for me and Rob to test, and so them I know what he was talking about. I have them size now and they will be launch out of 45 cal., not the HOSTAGE on Weds, and will report on how they do. Rob has the HOSTAGE now and as soon as he is done, and brings it back to me it will be going back home to OHIO. It will no longer be held HOSTAGE, I gave up on that strategy.
