Was at cabelas and found a used Remington 700 270 adl for $409 thought it was high thinking about offering $300 or maybe less. Thinking of using it for a build just not to excited about long action.
Does $409 seem high? It's blued and synthetic stock?

Can't you get a SA action only for around that price? Been quite a while since I looked.

You should be able to get a new action for around $400.

I'll do some more looking.
Can't you change the head on the bolt to accept 209 primers and not the whole bolt?

I'll do some more looking. Can't you change the head on the bolt to accept 209 primers and not the whole bolt? I thought Walmart had them for like $390? You need to get a savage if you want to swap the bolt head. A Remington needs a whole new bolt.

Thanks Luke, thought I saw someone made a new guide for the Remington bolt but I'm in conversation with Linebauh he's saying the same thing so I'll look at savages maybe.

We can do a nutless for a savage if you want to go that route.

Just bought a new 700 from cabelas last week on sale for 639 plus a $100 mail in rebate. The long range model. Used 700s from what I've seen go from 450 on up to 650. The new actions with bolts I've seen on brownells are $475-525

Lol, thanks Luke!! Moving to Nebraska was my wife's idea and even though I hated the idea, it's turned into one of my best moves. I can hunt whitetail, mule deer, antelope, elk, and big horn sheep. Will I ever hunt elk and big horn sheep well I have to put in for drawing first so I don't think so but it's an option. Either way I'm an Iowa Hawkeye fan born and bred!!
As long as the gun shoots great pink purple orange really doesn't matter. Lol
I'm going to do some more looking and see what I can find, thanks guys for the info.

I have done that before but the trigger and firing pin are required for a bolt swap so I think it's actually cheaper to get the whole unit.

Wife said I had to leave Nebraska and come to Iowa if I wanted her for a wife. Couldn't get too far away from Mommy. Danged the luv-bug! Big game hunting in Iowa is very limited compared to Nebraska! GO CORNHUSKERS!!

Yeah, I like making fun of the bug eaters, but we're definitely pretty limited besides whitetail here in Iowa. Plus you get to hunt with Zen, so that counts for a lot.

This year's hunting trip out west to Zen's I'm bringing along Linebauh as well. He's pumped and I'm hoping to go out next month to set some trail cameras to do some of my own scouting.
I have some small issues with my McRem and really want to get the new arrowhead plug which is why I'm looking at a new build. However Linebauh keeps telling me I just need to fix what I have and I do agree with him just that a new build sounds fun.
I still get to watch my dad hunt in Iowa along with my boy. I still go to the morning breakfast and hanging pole. But hang out at mom and dad's house while they hunt so I still kinda get to be in the hunt in Iowa.
Never thought I'd enjoy living in Nebraska but I'd never go back to Iowa unless I got a smoking deal on a nice house. If anything I'd move out west and be close to hunting grounds.
