Anyone running the 6.5-284, 140g Berger hybrids and VV N165? There is mixed information between Berger and VV on the max load by about 3 grains. I contacted both already but wondering others experiences with this configuration. I worked up from 10% under Berger max and now at VV max with no pressure signs in stuck bolt, bolt marks on the case head or cratered primers.

I've not any experience with that round but I'm 2.5gn over in a Creed with no issues either. Is your chamber custom long throat or SAAMI? I have a buddy that shoot out a couple of 6.5-284 barrels before moving to the .284 Shehane. I can check with him and see if he ever used VV165 but I'm fairly certain he was using H4831SC.

SAAMI spec throat and a .288 neck diameter. My creedmoor is about the same for over the book by that would be almost 6gr over the book for Berger. Haven't seen a recommendation from a bullet vs powder vendor that far off before. Typically i have seen, for the calibers i have, they are within a grain or so and i just work it up. Berger says for the 140 grain it is 51.8 and VV says 55.8 that is how far off they are. Don't want a potential pipe bomb.

Glad I was sitting on the strong side of that action Lol I wasn't shooting the full VV load the other day when we were there. Tested the higher loads at the house after i got home.

No joy on the VV165 info. All he used was H4831SC.

Case head and primers with the resulting target. Still no stuck bolt/case and no tight extraction. Looks like I will now play with seated depth with the 54.3.

Primers look fine to me and I can't see ejector marks/flow marks. I would say if you measured case heads and there is no issue there you are ok.
