I just asked that same question last weekend. I have a friend who makes his living buying house fixing them up and renting them out. He said he bought one used it once and took it outside an drove over it with his pickup. Do what you want but I decided not to get one.

I have one and it works great. Never used it with polyurethane based products. just paint. Cleaning it is important after you have used it.

It depends on which model you have.
IMO, the small unit works OK with thin paints and stain. I built a gazebo last year and wanted to spray the ceiling with the small unit....I threw it away and bought the Wagner Paint Crew Piston Pump Sprayer which worked 100% better.
With its power I would think that polyurethane would work fine.
edge.
As a second thought, if you are using the water based Poly, you may be able to thin it enough but I don't know for sure.

I got it last year on sale at Lowes. IIRC it was $50 off 200 plus a $50 dollar rebate so it netted out at $100. If I never use it again it was a bargain for doing the octagon ceiling in-between the rafters I didn't know about the rebate until I got home so it was just a bonus edge.

Depending on how much you have to spray... I would check at your local paint store about a rental unit sprayer. Just be SURE it is clean before you put your poly in it. I have been involved in the painting industry all of my life. I wouldn't recommend the Wagner. Drop

My experience using the Wagner power painter has been in painting equipment over the last 25 years- a woodchipper, trucks, and a backhoe. I use different shades of rustoleum and it has worked great, and saved me a fortune from sending them to a paint shop.
