I purchased a CVA Optima just because I want to try a new rifle. Have been reading reviews about the Power Belt bullets and the good accuracy people are getting with them out of their Otimas. Looking for some advice on Blackhorn powder and Power Belt bullets. I also bought the CVA Blackhorn breech plug. Thanks Heavy Barrel

Blackhorn powder and cva will work great at 100 grain by volume and magnum 209 primer. I would highly recommend shooting Barnes290 tez and. Stay away from power belts

Target practice: I've gotten good accuracy with them, expensive for shooting a lot
Hunting: No. Never again. Many much better bullets available

Try the 300gr Aerolite, its a beast and leave huge holes. 90-110gr blackhorn209 will do. My dad dropped an elk in her tracks this september with a single shot from his optima and a 300gr aerolite. The year before, he dropped a doe with the same load. I used a 338gr powerbelt platinum this october and she dropped in her tracks as well with a lung shot.

I haven't tried them on game yet but a few months back I bought a pack of 300gr Aerolites and shot them thru three different rifles and was impressed on how accurate they were and how easily they loaded.

Have used power belt bullets on white tail deer ,black bear in the 250 grain bullet and never had to track them any where.I have used them for over eight years, and I like the full size diameter bullets and the easy to load.

Thought about giving them a try because of reports I have read. I will only be using them on deer, within 100 yards.

try that 300gr aerolite, I think you'll be surprised by the damage they inflict.

If only shooting 100 and less go with the 295 gr. HP. They are plenty accurate at that range and kill real good. It was one of my favorites until I went SML. 10

Does it make a difference on powder charge and bullet type when using the Power Belts.

yeah, 245-295 use only around 80gr BH209 or equal with other powders. That 300gr Aerolite you can push up to the normal 110gr BH209 load with great knock down.

My buddy shot a buck last week with the Power Belt 295 copper plated hollow point using 100 grs of pyrodex pellets. The buck was only 20 yards and the buck ran 150 yards before he found any blood. He was able to track the buck where he was stumbling and tearing up the ground. He recovered the bullet so I will see if he will send me a pic of it to post.

I have killed a boat load of deer with 240g-295g ,if I stilled smoked with my optima Id be loading them. My favorite was the 295g copper clad either hollow point or tipped.Never lost a deer with 1,not always a exit but they never go far

Don't know how they will work with blackhorn, but my Knight MK 85 and 100gr 777 work like clock work, I use the 348gr HP with a vital hit deer don't go over 10yd most drop in their tracks, I have killed 30-40 deer and 2 elk no problems. I keep hearing they aren't accurate, the knight will shoot 1" groups at 100yd, but all guns are different. Good luck. Shootem all like you mean it !! TJ

The last time I hunted with my Knight I killed a large buck with the power belt bullets. As I can remember they shot very good and the Buck ran 30 Yards and piled up

Ive had the skirt and conical separate after loading in the barrel. Just something to keep in mind. The few deer I took with them, it worked great. Ill never use the all lead ones again, just the copper plated ones. I shot a buck at 30 yards, and the bullet literally exploded inside. There were lead fragments in the loins that came up from the chest cavity. I never saw that before...
All deer were pretty much bang/flops.
