I took a couple subcalibers to the range this morning to do a little testing. I sized some 416 bullets last night and forgot to screw the brake back on and didn't realize it until I opened the gun case at the range. It shoots just fine without it. .416 Shilen CmC Rem 700 Kash♡Myers 209 bolt. Shot off sled. .408 McGowen Savage Target Action 209 bolthead. Shot off front rest, rear bag. I alternated between the 416 and the 408 for the first 100yd groups. I fired the first shot at 9:05am and the last at 9:41am. I killed time talking to a fellow who was there shooting between shots. .416 100yd group and first time using IMR4350 with the 300gr TSX. .408 100yd group. I started where 7mmfreak left off and fired 3. Adjusted scope up and fired the 4th. This one is ready for Dave W to play with in WV. .416 200yd group with Barnes 350 TSX flatbase. First group ever with these since annealing and indexing. I should have shot them at 100yds to see where they were hitting first before dialing 3MOA. Oh well. Almost forgot this one. With the recoil of the .416 the sliding front rest on the sled wants to walk forward. Realized it was on the swivel stud after shot 2. Shots 1 and 3 are in same hole. These were shot one after each other with no cool down.

Guess I don't have an excuse after you punched out a .395" with that combo. That .416 is lighting it up, and with big game bullets to boot! Don't see any need for varmint bullets to make it shoot. Maybe it is the Shilen. Great shooting all around!

Great shooting Steve...I am sure Dave is going to have some fun playing with the .408 ...
the .416 is a fine looker and shooter...Looks like CMC built another fine rifle...

Am I missing something??? Or did you just whip arse and take no dickie? Nice shooting Steve, do you find it hard to size for the shilen? I've seen where some have trouble sizing for new barrels.

Good shooting Steve, you've got er figured out for sure, and in a short time. That Shilen is a winner for sure! Can't wait to shoot a better group with it than you in October.

You can shoot it Guy. Its an ambidextrous TH stock so even people that shoot from the wrong side of the gun can play also.

Great shooting! Didn't take you long to get the 416 shooting good. Is sub caliber Tuesday going to be a regular report?

Is sub caliber Tuesday going to be a regular report? Probably not. Only have Tuesdays off for a couple weeks. I'll just change the day.

Boy I'm going to have to tied a safety cord to that brake, and attach it to you shirt so you won't forget it again. Great shooting, and both guns sure put them in there, specially for a sub-caliber. Make sure when you let Guy shoot it in Oct. to take the brake off when he is not looking.

Sub cals gone wild, I love it. Glad you got the 416 figured out, now Earnhardt has someone to relate to with them. The 40's are going wild, Cole better have a good stockpile of Shilen 40's, I think he's gonna need them! I predict some amazing shilen 40 cals in the future, and 416's.

Looks good Steve, it's really cool you got the Barnes shooting so well, that saves some coin and will devastate critters... save me a couple of the lightest ya got to try and save Dave a couple of the heaviest, we will hide the brake when it's his turn.
