Just thought I'd let you guys know Kyle and I are going to do so work at the range this weekend. We are moving the two shooting benches that are currently in place and adding three more so we will have a total of five concrete benches to shoot from at the next shoot.. Once we get them in place the next project will be to put a roof over them to add some shade and shelter from the rain. If any of you local guys want to come down you're welcome to show,, we will be at the range all day tomorrow, Saturday, so if you ain't doing nothing and want to come help come on down,, I've got my trailer loaded pretty close to the max, with 30 bag of concrete., 20,,, 4x4 post, 12,,, 2x4's, 3,,, 500 pound concrete bench tops, my tractor and a 55 gallon barrel of water, (not shown in picture). Only bad thing about this load is I don't have any trailer brakes working at this time.. Not sure why they don't work, just quit on me recently and I haven't had time to look at them,, all the lights work so it might just be a broken wire going to the brakes.. And it's not the brake box in the truck because it works well with Lorne's trailer.. All the concrete on the front of the trailer makes the ole Dodge squat just a little.. I loaded the tractor a little far back to try and equalize the weight.. I'll be heading out at midnight tonight when I get off the RR job... Jeff Hankins..

Good thing you ain't got a Ford, it would have been in pieces on the ground with all that weight! Lol
If I wasn't over 1000 miles away I might just come help. One day I'll try to make the shoot hopefully sooner than later!
Looks good Jeff!

Riverrat,,, if 1000 miles were only 10 I'm sure you'd be there to help..
It's not just work.. I find it to be fun to do things with others.. I think they call that socializing..
My form of socializing is different than some others...
Hillbill... Ask grandma real nice and I'm sure she will watch those kido's,, I have 20 bags a concrete with your name on it... Lol... I'll dig the holes...
Jeff..

It seems like every summer I get busier than the last. I have a rental house that's empty and been cleaning and fixing it back up. Today I painted the high spots on a house for a friend whose afraid of heights. Moved a golf cart for another friend and went to work. That's the story of my summer so far.

Is that terbaccy I see in the field over the hood of the Dodge? I'm an addict (dip-chew-snort) and still love it just don't do it any more. Virginia and the USA were founded on the weed. Come a long way since 1612. 10 ga

Richard...
I doubt I get the roof done before this August shoot but it is in the long term plans...
Would build it all at once if I had the time, the help and most importantly the money..
A little at a time and we will get it done..
10ga.. Yes sir that's tobacco in the field... I can't stand the stuff after working in it as a kid and then raising 50 acres of it for years with my dad and brother,,, there's still a few farmers that raise it but the are far and few between,, just so happens one of the few is my neighbor..

Well guys.. Bill and Kyle were at the range at 8 am this morning. It was raining a little so we stood around and waited it out. Once it stopped at 8:30 or so it was 69 degrees and clear sky's all day.. By 5 pm we had the old benches pulled up and all 20 of the new post in place. Tomorrow I will place the tops on the post and get them lined up. Also I have 10 inches of fill dirt I need to bring up and put around the last two benches to get them 40 inches off the ground.. I plan on doing that tomorrow.. Here is a picture of Bill and Kyle hard at work... We had a good time today talking and telling stories... I'm sure all three of us will sleep good tonight... My arms are sore from all the digging and tamping I did today... Thanks to all Jeff Hankins..

we had a very unusual day for late june, 69* cloudy and windy, perfect for hard work. I made it back home last night at midnight. I left home at 2:20 am yesterday morn headed to meet Kyle, long day but we got a lot done. 5 concrete benches in a row now and all the same height. not a shot fired all day, no time to squeeze it in.....

Seeing all the grid lines at first glance it looks like an archeological dig site. I’m sure there will be some interesting history and memories formed here.

I was there in spirit, I finished one of my honey do list yesterday fixing our privacy fence that feel over last year. I dug and set three fence post and then put the privacy fence back up. The guy who did it before used 2 bags of quick set concrete per post and made sure the bottom wouldn't let water drain along with didn't use treated 4x4 so they rotted off at ground level and broke. A farmer I work with told me to use rock of concrete to set post and they seem to be working pretty well only time will tell.
Glad you guys had a great day to work it was pretty nice here also little warmer but no humidity so that was awesome. Looks good guys!

After a couple hours of shuteye at best, Bill and I arrived a little after 8 yesterday morning and Jeff was already there unloading equipment for the days work. Jeff knew what he wanted to get done and had all of the material onsite that was needed. After waiting a few minutes for the rain to pass we put our work boots on and got at it. By 1 o'clock we had 12 of the 20 posts concreted in the ground fot the 5 benches and headed down the road a couple of miles to the store for lunch. That was the best roast beef sandwich that I have ever had. After lunch we got back to work and with soreness and lack of sleep kicking in, managed to get the other 8 posts concreted in the ground by 5 o'clock. We cleaned up, loaded up, changed clothes, talked for a while and were back on the road by about 6:15. I dropped Bill off at his daughter's place around 11:00 and was back home, showered and in the bed at 12:15. We had great weather and a great time. Not bad for three rednecks and a pit bull! Kyle

Jeff made a thread over on ozarks back porch about the construction of the shooting benches, start to finish.
