Federal released their newly designed bullets last year. Has anyone tried these 50 caliber 270gr bullets? I'm Hoping to draw. Colorado muzzleloader tag this year. The 50 caliber non sabot load requirement limits my rifle selection. My Knight Elite is out since it does not have provisions for sights.
My rifle choices will be limited to my TC Encore or Remington 700mls. I have not tried bore sized slugs in either muzzleloader.

Never was able to kill anything with these bullet, but i have shot them at paper, and milk jugs. The morning of October 30, 2014, these 270g copper bullet were given a try. The rifle was an Omega Dream Season with a 4X scope mounted. The bullets loaded very easily. The first on a squeaky clean cold barrel, the next two on the lightly fouled cool barrel loaded about the same. One of the bullets was retrieved from a hole in the hill side behind the target. It weighs about 256g, with perhaps some dirt embedded. On November1, The breeze was light so it seemed it might be worth trying the Federal Bullet at 200 yard. The breeze on the ridge top where i set the target for a 200 yard shot wasn't too bad either, so 3 shots were taken at the top target. The breeze was right to left, so the aim was the right edge of the red circle, and the elevation dial was twisted up 7 moa. On November 27, 2014 the object was to capture one of these bullet traveling at a speed at which it would be traveling out aways, if shot from a rifle using a full power load. Apparently it has been reported these bullets expand nicely at 100 yard or so, but fail to expand at longer ranges. A chronograph was set at about 12 yard, and used to measure the speed of these bullet. Using a load of 65g Blackhorn resulted in a speed of 1335 fps at the clock. Close enough.. the milk jugs filled with colored water were placed right there. Then, 1/10 second after impact. Afterward, the jugs.. The bullet penetrated through three jugs, and into the fourth where the bullet was found. The captured bullet weighs 266g. The unfired bullet weighs 270g. Them petals are sharp nasty things that should do terrible things to lung tissue. A VIDEO of bullet capture. During hunting season i carried an Omega X7 loaded with this bullet. Never had a chance at a critter. At the end of the season when discharged, the bullet hit the bull.
