The rifle is built by Ken Johnston who owns Ultimate Firearms Inc. Ken named is new rifle the "Game Breaker". It is chambered for the .450 Bushmaster, has a custom made to his specifications Lothar Walther barrel, 24" 1:24 twist. Stocks are H-S Precision's with different stocks available.
This rifle has a Leupold VX6 3-18 mounted with Leupold standard mounts. Ken has a target with my name on it, that a 3 shot group measures .375" c2c, which its my understanding may end up on his web page. This baby sets in my safe for the next good day, hopefully to come soon.

Did you build that to be Indiana/Michigan legal (1.8" max cartridge length) for deer? It would be interesting to see what kind of loads you could work up using Parker MHs or even the BEs and see if the accuracy improves over the SSTs.
We are kinda waiting here in Ohio to see if they add the 450 Marlin to the approved cartridge list. Then using Luke's 310gr APB, things might get real interesting. It's past the Wildlife Council and has to be made law by the Statehouse.

it'd be a shame not shoot smokeless/sabotless loads out of that bad boy

If it doesn't work out or he gets tired of it he could always put a breechplug in the barrel.

Other loads have been worked up but, I believe at the time Ken is recommending factory or, loads within loading specifications.

Cole, The 460 S&W Mag Improved is one of those cartridges the AR crowd came up with as a big bore thumper to compete with the 450 Bushy, 458 SOCOM and the 50 Beowulf. Last I heard it was being made as the 45 Raptor. Pretty much the same as the 460 but rimless, the case head is the same as a .308. The selling point was it can handle higher pressures (60ksi) and you can use 460 dies with 308 shell holder.
I would be leary of using the .460 Imp in Ohio. The Ohio regs are cartridge specific and the absence of rimless cartridges are there for a reason, it cuts out a lot of the AR platforms and other semi-autos. If the head stamp was ".460 S&W Mag" you might get away with it but if it's stamped ".460 S&W Mag Imp" or "45 Raptor" you just might get a ticket or worse (like loose the rifle if you bagged a deer). I would get something in writing from the DNR before using it in Ohio to avoid the chance of any hassle. The Game Wardens here are getting like the State Troopers anymore, write the ticket and let the court decide if the guy wants to try to fight it.

Ken that's what I was wondering, didn't know if it was like the fury bullets and just a product renamed or what the story was. I saw on his site he says the 450 bushmaster and 460 are ohio legal but I didn't see the bushmaster listed in our laws. Thanks!

I think he missed that the 450 Bushmaster is not legal in Ohio and thinks the 460 Imp is legal in Ohio because the 460 is legal in Ohio. He also states that the Ohio law says 1.8" max case length, he must have got confused because there is no such rule in Ohio, several of the cartridges on the approved list are longer. The Ohio list of allowed cartridges for deer hunting is cartridge specific. I hope he is going to pay the fines for his customers. I'm pretty sure if I was to blow out a 30 Remington case and call it a 375 Winchester Improved and tell the Game Warden it was legal because the 375 Winchester is legal, I would get at least a blue slip of paper during deer season. I've had dealings with a couple of members of the Wildlife Council and the higher ups in the DNR (both management and enforcement) and it's like dealing with Judge Dredd, "The law is the law". If Indiana goes unrestricted centerfire and Ohio allows the 450 Marlin that might cut into the customer base. Cole, www.45raptor.com/45RAPTOR/ When it popped up last year I remember it being a 460 rimless clone but never heard of the "460 S&W Mag Improved" title till now.

That looks freaking awesome!!! No doubt it's "right and tight". You going to try and stretch it out to 200 and 300 to see how it does? Working with some of the AR thumpers around here with their short barrels they seem to run out of steam at the 300yd mark

Winds today are 23 sustained and gusting up to 40, with rain/snow showers expected for the next few days. When I get to shoot it at those distances, I'll post my results.

Ohio's deer regulations. I don't see where Kens rifle can be used. Too bad.
Straight-walled cartridge rifles in the following calibers: .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .38 Special, .375 Super Magnum, .375 Winchester, .38-55, .41 Long Colt, .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .444 Marlin, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Long Colt, .45 Winchester Magnum, .45 Smith & Wesson, .454 Cassull, .460 Smith & Wesson, .45-70, .45-90, .45-110, .475 Linebaugh, .50-70, .50-90, .50-100, .50-110, and .500 Smith & Wesson. Shotguns and stright-walled cartridge rifles can be loaded with no more than three shells in the chamber and magazine combined. Legal Straight-Walled Cartridge Rifles for Ohio Deer Hunting The 450 Marlin will be added this year.

He didn't say and I didn't ask but, it may be why he's also making the S&W .460.
After I get through with the upcoming match, I'll be able to get the .450 to the range and see what I can do with it at 300.

Ohio's push to allow rifles was started under the premise of pistol cartridges. I don't recall the 450 Bushmaster or the 450 Raptor being chambered for a pistol. The fear of a black gun may delay its introduction for use in Ohio's deer season.

The Michigan law is simple.... 450 bushmaster is legal in Michigan. I used one this past season.

I followed this pretty close from the beginning and while the Ohio DNR starting out with just pistol cartridges it seems the cowboy shooters and the BPCR guys had a lot of influence with maybe a serious lever action guy or two. It lets the BPCR shooters get their .45-70, .45-90, .45-110, .50-70, .50-90, .50-100, and .50-110s out in the field. The 38-55 is popular with the cowboy shooters in rifle side matches
The only modern rifle cartridges that made the first cut were the .375 Win (1978) and the .444 Marlin (1964). One oldie but goodie I think they missed was the .405 Win (1904) which was pretty much obsolete by the 50s but had a comeback in 2000 when Winchester/Browning chambered the 1895 in it as a Teddy Roosevelt commemorative. Then Marlin decided to bring out the .450 Marlin which knocked the .405 out of the "most powerful cartridge for lever action rifles". I guess you can still say the .405 is the "most powerful rimmed cartridge for a lever action".
I have to agree the fear of the black rifle probly kept the .450 Bushy and the .50 Beowulf off the list. Down around the cabin the boys on the drives would be throwing some serious amounts of lead if they were allowed the .450 Bushy on a AR platform. There is a company building AR-10 uppers that can handle the .450 Marlin but at $1500 just for a upper, that seriously would cut into their beer money.
I was supposed to build two .375 Wins on 788 30-30 actions but now those guys are wanting to go .450 Marlin. Donor action cost is the main thing, you can pick up used Savage SAs for around $350 all day long. One guy is kinda set on a 700 but finding a SA with a magnum bolt face cheap is tough. As far as bullets we are looking at the 300gr Barnes bullets (the SOCOM bullet looks real interesting), Hornady's .325 FTX and 250gr Monoflex, Nosler's 300gr CT. Luke's 310gr APB might push the OL a bit too long to work in a SA bolt gun.

VERY FIRST time shooting the rifle beyond 100yds...........
I had time this forenoon so I headed to the range. The mirage was excessive today off the sand. I stapled up a target at 300 yards and sent 5 rounds.

That's STILL a very dead dear @ 300yds!
Love the Timney on my 700ml, though, and it did make a positive difference.
