Had my mind made up I was getting a CVA apex 45-70 slufoot conversion. I couldn't find one anywhere so I called CVA and was told there in production and will hit the market in a couple months, so in the meantime I was reading more about to rem 700 ml conversion . pacnor barrel Boyds stock (beautiful gun).is it worth it for me to spend the extra money considering I want to shoot with a sabot ?I don't really want to get into swaging my bullets because I'm new to smokeless and don't want to bite off more than I can chew right now.iv read sabots can only stand so much heat and pressure. Basically would I gain any distance with accuracy with the option of higher powder charges with the rem 700 ml conversion since I would still be using sabots?

I started off the same way your talking about. Once you start getting frustrated with sabots you'll go sabotless and never look back. I'm almost positive that this won't be your last build. You can do everything you want with the 700 build and then some over the CVA apex. However the apex will do allot just that you will need to be more careful on how hot you want to load. Don't get me wrong that apex can shoot just as good as the 700 just that your going to be around $200 less than a 700 with the apex. Just spend the extra money and get the 700. You'll be happier in the end.

I would personally go with a rem. or savage bolt action and use your sabots, and after you are proficient with that program you can go sabotless if desired and not have to go to another gun and start from scratch. JMO jeff~

Pro's and con's go both ways. The CVA is going to be less weight, but you give up a little performance in the "power" area.
A standing order for the CVA could possibly get it to you as soon as waiting for the barrel you would want for a 700. Once you get the CVA, you can get with Slufoot for his magic, and have it back quickly.
Do you have a 700ml, or know where you can get one right now? It took some of us more than a couple months to find one. It's going to take a lot more to get and put all the parts together with the 700ml than it would the CVA.
Having said that, I would not trade my 700ml for a CVA. Seems like a few have because of maneuverability as well as weight issues. Depends on how you hunt. My hunting is still, stand and ground blind hunting, so the weight isn't a factor. There's just something about the appearance of a scoped 700, I guess.
Put together correctly, both will be very accurate and more accurate than many a factory center fire. If you choose the CVA, keep money back for a smooth bullet die. It you choose a 700ml, make sure to get barrel drop from it for a full form bullet die. Use the saboted bullets to get acquainted with your rifle, but you will soon find that smokeless sabot shooting is a whole different world than BP sabot shooting. Much more wait time between shots, barrel cooling rods in hot temperatures, the occasional shredding of sabots which require a good barrel cleaning of plastic to reacquire accuracy, etc., etc.

JMO jeff~ I agree with jeff. I went the break open route and do like the gun I have, but to do over again I'd go with the bolt gun. you can use sabots or not and use any kind of powder.

another option would be to buy the Remington Ultimate and do a barrel/plug swap. it would make a very nice rig for about the same money as a full custom build on ML action. just another option...

I have a CVA and a 700ml. They both have there place hunting. If you hunt open places with shots over 300 yds I would go with the 700ml. In the woods and out to 300 yds the apex kills deer just as dead as the longer and heavier 700ml. IMHO

You can spend anywhere from $1200 to really almost unlimited depending on what you want and need. If Luke still has some mcgowens that will take a Parker without sizing grab one of those up from the get go. If you buy a cf action the price of the build will easily double, guys that can work on them have to pay bills to keep in business.
