I ordered a new stock for my Bighorn. It came in the other day, and I am in the process of fitting it to my rifle.
It is just a little snug, and I don't want to force it in and split a laminated stock.
Started thinking about using a bedding compound. Do I just skim the bedding area, do I slightly enlarge the bedding area and fill with compound, or do I hog it out and fill?
I started hitting it with the Dremel, and it almost drops in without resistance. The barrel channel just touches the right side of the barrel at the tip of the stock.
Has anyone bedded a Bighorn? Do you taper the action lug for easier disassembly?

Ive done a couple mountaineer's i like miles Gilbert bedrock bedding. I like to start by installing a pillar for mounting screw and glass it in the stock first . On mine i wrapped receiver and barrel at forearm tip with tape so pillar is installed a little high like 1/32" after pillar is bedding in now you will have clearance to bed action and lug complete i usually bed extending2" forward of lug. On lug i put a layer of scotch tape on sides and front of lug this will give clearance on lug . Miles Gilbert kit comes with all material needed except tape and a long stud to fit recoil lug thread is handy while doing bedding work

Wow, that is the kit I have.
Now to get a pillar to install. It has a 9/16 bore already, but a plastic insert. Do you get the rem pillar, and flatten the top?
Anyone know if Boyds makes the Mountaineer stock for Knight? My green thumbhole looks just like the one on Knights web site (but without the bolt handle slot)

Yes Remington pillar would work fine. Or just a aluminium bushing you can cut and drill to fit. Boyds stock is for non bolt gun they will work but will take some cutting for bolt inlet and some recoil lug area work.

Is that the tacticool/varmiter thumb hole? I am really close to ordering one for my 700 Conversion. What do you think of it?

Definitely get the optional pad. I ordered it with the limbsaver, and the sent the standard "pad". Looked like a solid 1/2" piece of rubber. They send me a correct stock.
I have bored out the mount hole (only 1 on the knight) and am going to pillar bed it.
