Has anyone had any experience with these, I've read allot of different reviews and seems like mostly good reviews. I've read where people had issues the stock was touching the barrel so they sanded it down a little along with filling the stock with body puddy to stiffing it up. For the money I think it's a good deal for a predator rifle but still not a 100% sure. I been thinking I could look around for a good used rem 700 sa and get it to stay shooting them later build it up but in Omaha seems like prices are pretty high for any rifle.
Any thoughts?

I know of one guy that has one and it shoots good for him. I think it's 243, and he has popped a few yotes so far. Happy for what it is he says. Savage Axis is also a low cost sleeper. I set up one for my boss in 223 and it is a real shooter. Also the Marlin X7 seems to be a decent low end gun. I know of 4 or 5 good shooters around my clan without any work done and every one of them is acceptable. Indiana is talking about going high power rifle so I have been keeping tabs on different avenues. I am into TC Encores so I just may keep that route since they work so good for me. Jay

I've been doing allot of research lately and want to get a yotes to prairie dog gun. Something I can shoot allot and learn wind and won't break the bank. Wish I had money coming out my ears and I'd already have my mind made up.
Right now I feel the 223 is going to be my best choice. Still researching right now. Learning allot which is good.

With a .223 hunting PD's, you will certainly be learning wind alright! When doing a lot of it, I got sick and tired of the gusting winds blowing .224 bullets off target yet another direction just when ya think ya have it figured out. Then I got a PD, yote, and deer rifle... .25-06, and started connecting with a LOT more PD's! Prior to the '06, I was using a .22-250.
If you reload, think .243, at least!

You will definitely work harder in the wind with a .223 Rem and the Ruger has a 1-8" so you can shoot usable weights for training. I get the best performance from my 1-8" with 69gn and 75gn bullets and they mirror a lot of other stuff reasonably well inside 400yds but you will need more adjustment past that.

If you're going to do a lot of PD shooting the 223 is IMO your most practical and best bet as the barrel will last almost forever and the cost of shooting it will be much less than any other caliber... Keep your shots at distances you are comfortable with and as you get better at judging the wind you can extend you distance.. With a good accurate 223 a PD is in trouble out to and past 300 yards, and if you miss him it ain't no big deal...
A 223 will also take coyotes out to 300 yards so it could be your dual purpose rifle if you want it to be., but if you think you might want to shoot deer with it and its going to be your only rifle then a 25-06 is a great caliber,, but remember,, although the 25-06 is not a hard kicker, a couple hundred rounds in a days time at the dog town will get quite uncomfortable,, IMO.

Thanks Jeff, I went looking today almost bought a Ruger American 223 at Scheels today for $299 on the used shelf. I tried to get them to budge on the price but they would not and I decided I didn't need it. After that I got to thinking, I can get a Remington 700 adl for $449 with a junk scope. After I thought about it I decided that I'm going to get the Remington because if I ever want to get a higher quality barrel for it or stock or trigger I can however with the Ruger American I don't believe I can get any upgrades. Still can't decide on caliber 223 or 243. I will be reloading.

Well you have made a better choice going with the Remington IMO... Jeff Hankins.

Last Spring I picked up a Remington VLS in .243 . I really only tried Nosler 70gr. Ballistic Tips with Varget and was lucky enough to get 1/2" groups from the start . This was when Remington had the trigger issue call back . I had a local smith put in a Timney trigger and had that issue resolved . Chris
