I am contemplating buying a CVA Apex 45-70 or an H and R 45-70 to have converted to SML. Both are in the price range I want to spend so that does not matter. I will have to shoot sabotless since Indiana I believe requires a .45 bullet or larger. With that in mind can you guys give me a good idea? Also I am assuming Slufoot to do the conversion.

If you don't already own a H&R I would go with the Apex. I had Slufoot convert one for me and am very happy with it. I also have owned a H&R USH and can say the CVA is better built. The Apex trigger is much better and the stock fits me better for scope use. The Apex typically will take a Barnes 250 TEZ straight from the package no sizing or knurling needed.

I have two Apex 45-70 conversion and they both shot great.... The bore on both barrels were uniform all the way to the breach plug... FYI, I have to size the 250 BE to get them down the barrel.

CHECK INTO THE CVA ELITE STALKER IN45-70.I BELIEVE THE MODEL IS CR4500M.JUST AS STRONG AS THE APEX BUT ABOUT HALF THE PRICE.IT DOES NOT HAVE THE INTERCHANGEABLE BARREL SYSTEM,BUT IT WILL WORK JUST AS WELL.PLUS INDIANA IS 44 CAL AND LARGER IN THEIR MUZZLELOADERS,LOADED WITH SINGLE BULLET OF AT LEAST.357 CALIBER.PAGE 25 UNDER HUNTING EQUIPMENT.
