First I would like to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Joe Purdum and I recently joined the forum. I am a retired police officer that has recently become obsessed with smokeless muzzleloading! To the point huh. LOL. I used to be a competitive archer, however a bad shoulder injury has put an end to that. I am currently in the process of getting a build done by a fellow member on this forum and cannot wait to for that projects completion. ( just in the beginning stages however) I would like to say thanks for all of those who contribute so much information to this site. I am blown away by all of the loading data, build data, ect., that many have taken the time and money to produce and share with all of us. And as I do whenever possible---------THANK YOU to all of the armed forces men and women who protect our freedoms every single day. Now, I have a question. My buddy (also retired from the force) is wanting to do a conversion involving his Savage 10ML. He has one of the original models that uses the ignition modules and has a different breech plug. He wants to buy a brux barrel in 45 caliber for this gun. Is there any issues with doing this conversion as opposed to converting a savage 10mlII? I am sure he will be joining the forum soon as well but I told him I would ask in the meantime. Thanks-----Joe

Somebody can correct me if i am wrong but with the original 10ML he can use a 209 bolthead and Savage (Slufoot modified) breech plug and be good to go with a Brux prefit. Luke at smokelessmz has everything you need.

Welcome to the forum!
And coming from an ol' Vietnam era vet, I thank you for your service.
Seems like a couple have converted their ML-I's to .45, and I'm sure you will hear about it soon.

the 10 ML that I did got a new bolt head and a savage plug, the firing pin had to be modified some(turned down) but was no big deal. it turned out very well and is very doable..

Info only I talked to Pete at Pa machine He made me a couple of nipple plugs that would work with a bolt nose change (308 size). I think that they are problematical but can be modified to use 209. I've talked to him about making a plug using just cut down brass similar to the Remington B/p which would be able to use a bushing large rifle primer. The nipple plug would be questionable trying to go with a bushing? I'm a ML1 fan but with modules vents and B/P getting hard to get I'm looking at other avenues. I really like the action and like the fact that it has lugs. The one problem if you go to a modified ML2 B/P if you measure from primed to sealing face there is upwards of .200 difference. The other answer would be to pay Jeff Hankins the big bucks and use his system which seems to be great for a 45 cal? The advantage you have if you do a barrel change the sky is the limit.
