Okay guys embarrassed to say I shot the ramrod out to never find it again. I read the other threads on ramrod shooters but just want to verify I'm right. About 6" from the breech plug I can see a ring there. Also when running a patch through it would appear to be about the same spot there is a bit of a loose spot not really noticeable when moving slowly. I am assuming I know the answer and my barrel is bulged but what do you guys think? Also what are my best options for a smokeless barrel for it now assuming it's bulged? A pac-nor barrel?
thanks in advance.

Yes on both accounts.... Looks like your barrel is bulged and pac-nor is a great barrel... I know from personal experience on both. Zen

They are all good barrels just depends on what you want to spend and if your main goal is hunting or target shooting. Panhandle is right Pacnor makes a great barrel and the McGowen barrel is a fine barrel also. My McGowen barrel can shoot moa and better. Honestly any of the custom barrels are better than moa shooters.
If you get another barrel make sure you get a barrel drop with it so you can have a full form die made. Smooth form works great for hunting purposes but for an extra $30 you can get a 2n1 die which opens the door up for allot more versatility in bullets.

Sounds like you bulged the barrel? If so you have more options than ever. Check with Luke on cost and what availability. I have five Pac Nor's one Silen and am working on a Krieger now.

A number of quality barrels are available but if you were satisfied with your .50 before there are take off barrels available as indicated. There are a bunch of good guys on this board to help in various ways. I would definitely put the damaged barrel out to pasture, I would not feel comfortable using that ringed barrel especially with many alternatives available.

Thanks for all the responses I might very well take Jeff up on that. I'm not a paper shooter. It is Strictly for hunting purposes. In most cases I can't blame the guns for not shooting sub moa groups but myself instead.
Great group of guys on here. Thanks for responses.

Welcome Sasky and welcome to the ramrod shooters club. For everyone's safety, can you describe why you think you got distracted, or the circumstances that caused the accident? Thanks

As requested I will say when your shooting at the range just slow down like everything else when you get in a rush s:&$ happens. Undecided on a scope for it I headed to the range thinking I would quickly site it in with the open sights but soon found out I couldn't get enough adjustment out of the open sights. From that I got frustrated and distracted enough from to shot a ramrod to ramrod heaven to never be seen again. Just slow down is the best advice I can give. It's like a guy once told me with still hunting. If you think your going to fast slow down.
Now that that is said I would like to thank Jeff for helping me out so quickly. Thanks to the response and thanks to everyone else for the wealth of knowledge on here about shooting smokeless. You save a lot of us a lot of time who can't always make it to the range as much as we would like to due to kids, jobs, and life in general. Thanks for sharing your guys info and helping with questions. Merry Christmas everyone.

Thanks Jeff for giving Sasky a Merry Christmas and everyone a reminder that "Fece' Can and does Occur" when not concentrating on what you are doing. I think (and I speak for myself) most of us have been there and done that in some similar form. You are top shelf Jeff! Richard

I shot my ramrod as well. Rempac...all I found was 2 splinters down range. I had just installed my barrel, bases and scope. Excited to get to the range (private 200 yd range), I loaded up my Rempac, Savage Ml 10II, Mossberg 715T, and my 9 year old son. I figured that while I waited for the SML barrels to cool, my son could plink with the .22. A fun afternoon was planned. My Rempac doesn't have a ramrod which I figured wouldn't be a problem as I haven't hunted without my son since he was 5. I thought that as long as he is toting the Savage, me the Rempac, we are good to go. I shot the Rempac first at 25yds just to make sure I was on paper and then off to 100yds. I was alternating the Rempac and Savage, studying every shot, loading pressure, temperature, ect to the last detail. To my surprise the first 2 shots at 100 yds from my new Rempac were not that great and although I was disgusted, I figured that the load was a poor selection. Having premeasured 4 loads (1 @ 25, 3 @ 100), I was going to go ahead with the plan. The fourth shot sounded funny, felt different, smelled different and again I chalked it up to poor load selection. I disassembled the action and inspected each item. With one round left to shoot out of the Savage, began to load. Ready to push the bullet/sabot home, I looked for the ramrod. I accused my son of playing with it, moving it, and even hiding it. Suddenly it dawned on me. As we walked down range, finding 2 splinters of fiberglass he asked , "what is that?" I replied its the ramrod I was looking for. He response was "Always remember safety first!"....I guess out of the mouths of babes and sucklings....
Best group out of Rempac to date is .65. I have never noticed any bulge issues either. A year later at the range someone had finally found a 10 inch piece of the ramrod. It has a permanent place on the shooting table to always remind us of "safety first."
