Planning on doing a conversion on either a CVA Apex or and TC Encore 45/70, I am selling my Savage ML 11 because of weight so my question which is the lighter the Apex or the TC. I like both so if there is a difference that is how I will proceed. Both will have the Bergara barrel.

I only have the Encores, but it's hard to imagine anything being lighter.
Not sure you would want it lighter either, 60gr. H4198 in my Katahdin is a descent little jolt.

One of each, because they are both nice and 1 just isn't enough. Can't go wrong either way, good luck with whichever one you choose.

Slufoot converted a 20" for my Encore. I had Hendershot do my trigger. This thing is an insane shooter!!! Either way you go I think you will be very happy. Lightweight, compact, easy to carry, 300 yard killing machine.....hard to beat

Apex has an adjustable trigger on it I believe. Another thing to think about is the TC has a hinge pin that has slop in it and causes accuracy issues. From what I've read those need changed out other than that the TC can be a great shooter however I bet it would be a heavier gun than the Apex.
If I was getting a break gun it would be the Apex. I believe Slufoot recommends the Apex also but you'd have to ask him.
I'd get in touch with Slufoot and ask him what he'd recommend. He's converted all the break guns and would have the best info out of all of us.
Good luck!

I like the apex over the encore. After converting both of them I believe the apex has the edge... Jeff

I own both.
Apex is a fine woods rifle. Out of the box the trigger is excellent. One thing I don't like is the forend. If pillared it would probably solve the crush issue when tightening the screws. Under side of forend is rounded which in my opinion is a pain to shoot off a front rest. Not an issue if you use a Bulls Bag. No aftermarket stocks available. No thumbhole available from factory.
Encore. Trigger a little heavy out of the box. Easily fixed with a Bellm trigger spring. Hinge pin issues, same as Apex. Some are sloppy some not. Easily fixed with a Bellm 1x or 2x hinge pin or adjustable TC hinge pin. HD locking spring and heavier hammer spring available thru Bellm. Aftermarket laminated stocks and forends available. Pillared forends available also from Tony Gettel.
In the end I like the Encore just a shade better.

I have too agree with omega Both guns r production guns , and there will be pros and cons right out of the box. The encore being around a lot longer and granite it is not what it was before Smith and Wesson bought them . There are a lot more available options. and fixes to common problems . With an encore u can start by buyin just the frame and go from there just as the remington 700 action lots of parts and availability .

For a hunting gun, I'd likely choose the Apex cause I like the feel of them better, just personal preference and I'd send it to slufoot for his proven conversion, cheap, quick turnaround and great proven history behind it. I believe Myers could deliver the same type conversion as slufoot if slufoot were busy or back logged. JMO

Thanks for the info I chose the Encore for my conversion. I have ordered Frame and stock set plus the muzzle loader forearm. Bergara 45\70 on back order and breech plug in the mail. Hope I get barrel fast so I can send to Slufoot. I was able to hold the Apex and its a sweet gun but like the feel of the Encore.
