I understand why boat tail bullets create problems for sabot shooters. Has anyone tried the Barnes 290 TEZ boat tail sabotless? If so results and loads?

I believe Barnes boattails are tmz and tez are flat base. Shooting sabotless with boattail is difficult i believe due to bullet swell needed for good rifling engagement and boattail design with added angle on base doesn't allow swell as does flat base . Plus there is a loss of bearing surface

As bestill said I have never had any real success shooting boattails in any manner in my MLs.

I stand corrected, the boat tail is the TMZ. Anyone have good results shooting the 290 TMZ sabotless.

If using a sabot in the past many tried different things. I think that it was found that you need a proprietary sabot to make them have any chance of working well?

These were shot a couple years ago in my Pacnor .45. BT and flat base Barnes. I see no reason why the 290 BT's won't shoot. IIRC these groups were shot with STRAIGHT charges of 55gr. Go figure a straight charge works with copper bullets..... TMZ BT 250gr. 100yds Flat base 250 TEZ. 100yds

Thanks for the reply. As usual your trigger pulling capabilities are impressive. Think I will do some experimenting with my guns. Did you use any type of wad with your loads and I assume it was H-4198 powder.

Probably a Dry Wool Wad. They work very well with the T-EZs as do the lubed ones for some people.
