Got a chance to test the new 45 cal. today. Boy! I was impressed with my heavy barreled Douglas version I built earlier. But this Shilen will out shoot the Douglas in a much lighter package. Even with the Savage 209 system.
Loading 73grs IMR 4198 270 Parker and a wonder wad produced a 3 shot round hole at 100 yards. Velocity from a 26" barrel produced 2835fps with a spread of only 6 fps. I can't even get my 6MM Dasher to go that low on deviation. I tried one shot without the wad and the bullet had the same point of impact. So its nice to now if you needed to load a quick second shot you could go without the wad.
The muzzle brake works better than I thought it would. The gun recoils up and to the right which it should with a right hand twist barrel. But there is very light felt recoil on your shoulder. And you can stay on target even on 14 power at 100 yards. The gun weighs 10.5 lbs so its not real light.
Turning the barrel blank down was a bit of work but it was well worth it. I Checked Midway USA these barrels are now on back order and the same at Sinclair INT where I bought the Douglas.
I hope my daughter in-law can get me up to speed on posting some pictures.
I got to thank Bob Parker again for having these bullets made they are great.

Good report! I havn't shot a deer with those bullets yet but did shoot a coyote at 140yds. No exit hole blew up inside of a 40lb dog. I was pushing those with 72gr imr4198 out of 26in barrel. I think where going have to stay close to broad side ribcage shots with these bullets.
