Found this site this morning surfing the web on converting a 50 cal. Rem ML to smokeless.
Have a few questions for the master builders on this site..
How much $$ does it cost to convert ?
Can someone mechanical incline do it their self ?
Can you buy a complete kit to do this ?
What all is needed to do this ?
What does it cost to get someone to do it for you ?

To start off Luke at ASG has all the parts you need except maybe a stock which Boyds can take care of that.
You will need, A barrel A Hunter bolt kit A Savage breechplug A recoil lug (the factory lug is forked) The factory synthetic stock is very thin in the forearm and will not take heavier barrel contours not to mention being a bit flexible.
Yes you can do it yourself, we can talk you thru it. The hardest part is swapping the barrels. You can do this with a set of V-blocks, a big HD vise, and a big crescent or pipe wrench (with some aluminum to cover the jaws). Or a local smith can just do the barrel swap for you. The breechplug needs a slight modification (Fishhawk has a sticky on it). You have to swap out firing pins which is easy with a firing pin tool (again a local smith could help you out with this or if you talk nice I'll loan you one). If you go with a Boyds stock you would want to fill the magwell, add pillars and then bed. A drill press and a Dremel tool is what you would need for that.
There are several guys on here that can do it for you. Once you have done a bunch you know what to do. There are a lot of little touches that a guys can miss. I do 3 pillars on the stock among other things and my builds will usually out-do the shooter but in the right hands will shoot .5 MOA@100yds pretty easy once you find the load and with a .45 that's easy, guys have already done a ton of shooting and will put you on to a load.

When I got mine converted back in 012 it cost about 700 dollars for the basic conversion(Standard Plug). Upgrade stock, Bullets, ramrod, sizing die, and bushing plug are extra's. See link on for Luke's page the explains it all www.smokelessmz.com/700ml.html

Welcome dryhorn2, Lurk about and learn more. Doing a conversion yourself is doable but you need some gunsmith ability. Sending out to a smith is easiest way to go and you don't have to worry about messing up and the do over costing more $. If you are wanting to go smokeless the cheapest way, sell the 700ML and you should have enough to pay 1/2 plus on a H&R conversion. Cheapest way to go. barrel is the big expense in parts and then the smith work/cost is next. I have gone both ways and sending out is by far the easiest, and cheaper than buying a commercial SML from a producer. There are several ways to go with such as breech plug style and barrel twist and length, weight, mfg. etc... Are you mostly a hunter or target shooter. And what is your style of hunting. Do you like a light gun or heavy type, thumbhole or standard stock or assault style adjustable stock, etc...?? All have an influence on what king of build is best for you. More time on here and using Dougs search engine and asking questions before you jump will bring much enlightenment. Good luck and good shooting. And dryhorn2, welcome to another addiction. 10 ga
