Friend of a coworker has to clean his Sav. 220 after every 3-5 shots or it shoots all over the map. Just something to think about. Thanks for that tip. Will give cleaning after every 10 a try then five see what happens.

Indiana DNR has lost there mind!!! No disrespect meant, but am I to be correct in thinking you imply the introduction of HP/CF rifles will cause otherwise responsible deer hunters to become irresponsible slobs lobbing shots in all directions? It has been my experience that a slob hunter is a slob hunter regardless of his weapon of choice and be it a slug gun or HP rifle only a slob go around filling the air with foolish irresponsible shooting. If in your area there are large amounts of indiscriminate shooting during deer season, its the fault of the hunters not the firearms types. If as you lament there are that many hunters out their guilty of such reckless firearm handling, then hunting as a hole is in worse shape than I imagined or feared. I all my 30+ years of hunting i have only witnessed once such example of reckless irresponsible discharging of firearms while deer hunting. I guess it could be possible I've been lucky thus far in my choice of hunting areas. I would like to hear if such atrocious firearm handling is a wide spread problem in Indiana during deer season, as that has not been my experience, even when hunting on public land which has constituted the bulk of my deer hunting in the last 10 years, in both IN and IL. As I said, I mean no disrespect, just interested in weather or not there are that many slobs among our ranks.

Wow! I was just sharing my opinion and seems to be the concensus of roughly 50 fellow hunters in my area of southeastern Indiana. We are in area of small little block of timber with farm ground and houses dotting the country side . And i personally feel the terrain is not suitable for high powered rifles. Just my thoughts.

My slug gun has been neglected since I purchased my Savage 10MLII The new saboted slugs are definitely better than they use to be but I would still get that 'where the hell did that 1 go?' every so often. Now with the .45 Pacnor barrel its a 1 shot=1 kill situation .

Could have not summed up my frustration with sabot slugs more accurately. Do I still get fiers with my 10ML-II, yes once a great, great while, but even then they stray less than a inch from POA, with sabot slugs I've had fliers that 100% defy any and all explanations and darn near double the group size.

Best still, please don't think I'm jumping on you, your entitled to your opinions like all others, I simply don't understand that with rifle calibers legal to use in pistols like the Thompson Center during the regular gun season, is not allowing the same center fire calibers to be used in rifles realistically any different?

I hunt The Northern Hoosier National Forest and you will hear plenty of slugs guns being pumped dry during the opener. Even hear a ridge get worked with multiple hunters trying to take a running buck. I think the rifle verses pistol issue is most people won't invest the money in the pistols shooting rifle cartridges vs a guy buying a do everything slug gun by swapping barrels. Plus to shoot the pistols as well as long guns you need a rest. I live in Kansas now but have done most of my hunting in Indiana and in the field sections I can see a problem with guys using 30-06's and such. In Kansas you can bait so most of the guys using these rifles shoot less than 100 yards to the bait pile. This is also after the rut. I do Wish rifles of less than 270 power and range levels would be allowed as it's much easier to get young hunters a shot and be accurate. My son has been shooting a .243 using hot loads since he was 5 and can shoot 200 yards using a front rest to support the weight of the rifle. He wouldn't be able to shoot a 20 gauge slug gun at that age. I've seen 15-18 year old kids struggle with slug guns. Give the Federal Trophy Coppers a try, they have worked great in my H&R 20 USH, a terminally they have acted like the Barnes bullets do in my muzzleloader.

I think RB, bless his soul, can answer this for us, but I'm on my phone and will have to add my thoughts later.

This is a subject that has always threw me for a loop. I have been to to Florida a couple times, that state is flat. Looking down a powerline clearcut or out over the ocean, no discernable difference, skyline for miles. And yet it is a centerfire state. Kansas, Texas, Minnesota, also some of the flattest states in the country that are centerfire legal. Always thought it was odd how these, some of the flattest states in the country, were centerfire states but some of the midwest states like Ohio were slug gun states.

In Florida ,when you go hunting, most of the time its on large tracts of uninhabited forest...not just little woodlots in between pastures/agriculture fields/prairie land....at least that's my experience....I have yet to see any deer killed from the ocean so far,but who knows,lol...JK....There is no rhyme or reason for rifle restrictions per state....we're just hunters and not the "EXPERTS" that run our country....We just have to do as they say or not hunt at all......

I believe a study was done that stated the Lethal range of slug guns and high powered rifles were actually not that much different. Not sure where I saw the article and as always the article could be wrong.
