First I would like to say I am glad Luke is safe. That barrel looked nasty. My Douglas barrel looked really nasty on the out side. They really should have stated that its not even rough turned. It looked like a old rough blue pipe.
The bore looked really nice! That's the most important part anyway. A Barnes 250 boat tail fits down the barrel with just the right amount of seating pressure and leaves slight land marks on the bullet. My 290 flat base fit a hair looser.
Since the out side of the barrel was so rough I put it in the lathe and turned it down. I made it 1.250 for the first six which gave me 5 inches ahead of the Rem action. Then stepped it down to .950 at the muzzle. I cut a inch of the muzzle. But before I did that I turned that section down to .875 and then threaded it for 7/8/14 threads so this piece will fit in my reloading press. for a form die. this left me with a 28 inch barrel.
I threaded and fitted up the action last night now I will cut and thread the barrel for my breech plug.
I order a sample pack of Parker Match hunters. I want to see which ones will shoot the best. I do plan on installing a muzzle brake on this barrel so Its going to be a bore rider type setup. I don't know if I will need a wad under the Parker bullet or not. Has anyone super glued the wads to the base of the bullet? With a brake. I seem some say you need a wad over the powder charge and others have had good luck without time will tell.
If my kid helps me post some pictures I will send them.
