Ok my build is almost complete so I need to start thinking about loads. I have not been able find any 4198 yet but did find 1lb of 3031.
My plan is to sight in with 4198 and Barnes 195 if I can find some 4198. After getting it on the paper I'll work on my hunting load.
I would like like to hunt with one of these 290 tez which I have, Barnes 275 xpb which I have or 275 be if I can get them. My problem is I don't have a sizing die yet. The 290 will load ok, I have not tried the xpb but I bet they are the same. I can knurl them to tighten them up too. I heard the be might not need sizing either.
i really like how the 3031 seems to deliver the velocity without the high pressure. Will these bullets be tight enough to not pressure starve the 3031? Is there a booster available other than 4198?
if I can not find 4198 what is the next best thing for 275-290 bullets. I don't need anything too hot I want to be on the very safe Side.

I'd look for N110, 4759 or Red Dot to use as a booster under the 4198. There is a good bit of load data in the load section where you can get a feel for what you're looking for. Look for TG's traces, that's where you will find it. H322 is a comonly used replacement for 4198.

Clays, Red Dot, Green Dot, Blue Dot. Loads using some of these powders are in Load Info>TGinPA Pressure Traced Loads Hyperlinked. Personally, I've been going with 5gr Green Dot, 75gr 3031. You could go with 10gr more of 3031, but 75gr has been a safe and manageable load in my rifle, as well as accurate. I full form size, so believe it would do you well to use either veggie wads or wool wads.

I don't know what state you are in. However if you are near Virginia, I was in GreenTop last week and they a great stock of H4198.
