Well I finally have my first build about done. I have to get another action screw because the front one is too short. It is a 700ml action, McGowan .45, Richards Wolverine Thumbhole in Myrtle with Ebony accents, Holland's trigger guard, score hi pillar bedding, Meopta 3.5-10x44, Talley stainless bases and black mounts. Feel free to check out the slide show of the build.

Thanks for the kind replies. It was fun to finally build something that I dreamed about for 5 years.

Great looking gun! How many hours went into finishing the Richards stock?

I'm purely guessing but with my crappy scrapper probably 4 hours on the barrel channel, 1 hour bedding prep, 2-3 on rough sanding then probably close to 5 on the finish. The barrel channel and bedding prep are the only times I worked until I finished the task. The rest of the time it was after the kids went to bed. I put 12 coats of finish on it and probably sanded half of them off filling in the pores. There are still a few small spots where you can still see tooling marks and one spot were there is some low spot. It would take most guys a couple of minutes to find them but they stick out like warts to me! I would have liked to open up the thumb hole a little but was starting to get worried about how much wood was left. Also there is a small knot in the bridge. I should take a picture of the other side. I learned that 7x paper is worth the money! Also myrtle is kind of strange wood.

Your did a good job on that stock! I finished a richards a few years ago and thought I had everything sanded. But once that Tru oil drys on there those ugly tooling marks pop back up!

I had so many tooling marks on my Richard's stock I used a random orbital sander in the beginning to get them out before progressive finer finishing. As mentioned you did well.

Yea I blocked out the use of the random orbital sander in my memory. But I did use it in a few places!

jweid,
Well done, you are the only one who will see the so called short comings. The rest of us only see a beautiful stock.
