Im ready to start new build and like some input on twist rate . My target distance to shoot is 300-600yds with327 match hunter at 2400fps and 26" . Anybody have experience with16,18,20,22 twist rate with 327 mh Is it going to be a .451 barrel? I have (2) .451's that I've shot the 327 MH out of. A Savage ML II 28", and a Savage T/A 30". Neither barrel has a brake on it. They are both 1/18" twist. I've shot a lot more 327 bullets out of the 30" barrel. The gun is heavier with the stock it has, so the recoil is a little more forgiving The gun is very accurate throughout the entire range of velocities from 2700 up to 3100 + fps. I'm very happy with 1/2 to 3/4" MOA, but the majority of the loads I shoot are T-Rex loads. So I think a little more accuracy could be found if I wasn't so concerned with pushing the 327 bullet at 3000 fps+ In the velocity range your looking for a load of 4198 could be used , giving you a sharp pressure spike and helping with obturation. A boosted load of 3031 would work too. Unless this is for one of your blackpowder guns...then I couldn't tell ya...

I think I would go 18, have built a few 18 twist and they did well with everything I tried in them..

Been shooting the 327 threw out the summer. I have limited experience with them and only tried two loads around 2500 fps with them. I'm shooting a McRem 45 25" barrel and no break. Load I ended up with was 15/65 4198/3031.
Here's my take on this bullet. Yes they are accurate however so are the SST I shoot. I didn't get any one holers with the mh which is what I was hoping for yet that could be me. My SST shot as good or better at 200 yards. I didn't feel the mh were a $2.00+ bullet. I can shoot out to 400 yards with the SST with moa groups same with mh maybe little better. For hunting purposes the mh are not needed and way over kill not to mention they explode on impact just like the BE's and sst. The goat I shoot yesterday at 50 yards went in on a head on chest shot and no exit. Didn't find bullet either.
Maybe for target/match shoots they will be good. And like Earnhardt said sharp kick to obturate into rifle is needed. I'm going to try green dot and 3031 however this is all over kill for hunting purposes and hard on your gun as far as recoil.
Panhandle and I hunt in western plans here in Nebraska where 1000+ yards shots are more likely than most any other hunting situations and we both are going back to SST/FTX, and TEZ. We were not impressed with the $2.00+ bullets when the cheap bullets worth just as affective out to 400 yards.
Not trying to start a war or upset anyone just this is our take on these bullets.

I have never had a MH of any weight fail to pass through although to be honest I have never shot an animal with the 327 but several with the 275s/ 300s. are they over priced? definitely.
I don't think I have ever had a bullet exit an animal with a head on chest shot, even the barns BO which IMO is a little too tough.
