Just put my idea into motion. I attached a lanyard, worn around the neck, that is long enough to charge the muzzleloader while sitting down or standing up. My problem solved. See you all next year at the shoot. Kyle

Where did that funnel come from? Jeff Hankins of Hankins Custom Rifles. He built a complete rifle for me, finished about 3 to 4 weeks ago, with a muzzlebrake. The bullet and powder both load through the brake. I have shot it with and without the brake as he also provided me a thread protector to use when the brake was not installed. The brake does what it is supposed to, takes away a lot of recoil. Kyle

I make mine a bit different, designed more for fullformed bullets. The "bore" is like .40 so you can't use a ramrod with most .45 bullet tips. You have to remove the funnel to use your ramrod. I do provide a tip to go on a short starter that will fit thru the funnel. Mine also has indexing marks and will grip the bullet so you can engage the bullet in the rifling when shooting fullform. You can always add a coffee can lid as a warning device. Just stick it behind the O-ring "bumper".
Shooting your funnel can ruin your day, just ask Cowhunter.

Rossman40, I demand that you take back your slanderous statement. I never blew up a funnel. I let my bother blow up my funnel right in front of my eyes -- and I may have even left it in the muzzle brake. I'm also going to have to demand that Kyle compensate me for stealing my funnel/lanyard idea. I may not have gotten a patent, but it was my intellectual property. I sold tithe rights to Fishawk. I couldn't think of the word "lanyard" when I described my idea to the board, so I used the word "thingy". By the way, I bought three nice funnels with matching pointy-bullet jags thrown in for free from Rossman40. All kidding aside, good safety tip Kyle.

OK.......so where can I get one of these setups.....either from Hankins or Rossman?
You selling these or just making for personal use Rossman?
Does Hankins sell them separate or just included with rifles? Excuse my ignorance, but I am ready for something better than the2 dollar wal mart funnel I been using!

My funnels are made to fit the brake that I use on my rifles. They were designed so that you an load through the fullel, both powder and bullet without removing the brake. This works great except you must remember to remove the funnel... Kyle Made his where he hase to remove it..... I could make a funnel to your dimensions if you want.. PM me if interested. Thanks Jeff.

Thanks Jeff. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the problem here. If you are loading both the powder and bullet through the funnel. Just remove the funnel at the same time you are removing the ramrod? Seems simple enough??? Or am I missing something here??

There has been people, myself included that have shot their ramrods so this idea is not fail-safe.

The problem might be avoided if you always removed your funnel with the ramrod or before the ramrod. But you use the funnel as a muzzle protector so you carefully remove the ramrod first. Then something distracts you. I believe that if you use a funnel you will encounter this problem unless you make something like Kyle did. Tom Post recognized this problem early. He lectures buyers about it and has a hole drilled on the edge of his funnels (oops, I just admitted I stole my idea from Tom). Jeff, you might consider drilling a hole in the edge of every funnel you make. Come to think of it I drilled holes in all three I bought from Rossman40 but I'm lucky not to ruin something. I think Rossman40 might consider drilling holes for less mechanical buyers. I should have asked and Rossman40 would have done it for free.

No problems loading standing or sitting. Also able to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction while charging and seating the bullet. No problems with loosing any powder through the hole either. I'll settle out of court for a guided turkey hunt in TN if interested. Kyle
